This is a horrible thing to hear about happening...but at least nobody was hurt.

I was actually at a few different nightclubs downtown on New Years but didn't even hear anything about this until yesterday afternoon. But yeah, it's obviously really shitty and a very good thing that whoever did it failed miserably.

Yeah the video I watched said the fire was put out within 30 seconds.

Queer Nihilism!
Uh, yeah, that sucks. Telling that this is like, not front page, right? No, "CHRISTIAN EXTREMIST ATTEMPTS TO MURDER HUNDREDS IN FOILED TERRORIST PLOT!" Etc.

One rumor going around is that this may have been attempted insurance fraud.

This reminds me of the Salvation Army volunteer who got punched in the face for saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." I truly despise religious fanatics.

Ironic, considering the Salvation Army are fundamentalists.

True.
But to say every member adheres to every word, would be false

I'm not quite seeing the parallel with this?
At any rate, as far as I've heard they still haven't caught the arsonist, so it hasn't been established that this was the act of a religious extremist, or that it was even a hate crime. That's obviously the first assumption when hearing about someone setting fire in a gay nightclub (and I think I remember hearing the other day that there was a pipebomb incident at this same club in the 80s or 90s), but some of the details about this fire do seem a little bit strange to me. Anyway, without wanting to speculate too much about the motive (but having said that!), I'd say the rumor mentioned by 'Danielle ni Dighe' seems like as much a possibility at this point as a hate crime.

People who do these things need to have their brains checked.
