i know this has nothing at all to do with the music but southampton fc have a thing, whatever its called, called "racism just ain't saintly" the fact that they almost never play black players has nothing to do with it

The Specials, The Toasters, Skoidats - a few of my favorites.

Hell yeah I know about ska. The older the better tends to be a good rule of thumb to apply. Not that there aren't a few good newer ska bands (Inspecter 7, The Slackers, and those that Juni mentioned jump to mind), but you can't top The Skatalites.

Oh hell yeah, the Skatalites are an amazing band. The Slackers are also a favorite; I like how they combine ska, jazz, blues, reggae and soul all together. I wanna see them live as soon as they're back to New York City.

I HATE Reel Big Fish.

They're awfull.

No Respect, Scrapy, Skatalites. That's the 3 bands I like the most. I don't really take time to download other bands. Although suggestions for bands to download would be nice :)

And the netherlands doesn't really have a big ska scene, especially here in Rotterdam(most ska is concentrated on the border of germany, for which you have to pay around 25 euro to get to with the train) which is where the dutch punk scene pretty much started and there's allways a few punk party's in and around rotterdam each month so I can't complain too much.

And finally for the first time in six months there will be a SKA party somewhere near here. And it's free too! I'm pretty happy bout that!

In Long Island, I haven't seen much of a ska scene but the punk scene is not bad - there's a skin scene but we're all separated, and there are some boneheads lurking around. I know there is a good ska scene in the city though.

Anyway, there are millions of good "english-speaking ska bands" out there - much better than Reel Big Fish.

Jeebus Christ man, go kill yourself. Now, as quickly as possible, go find some Draino and drink it as fast as possible.

O.K, that may be a bit harsh, but damn, you have no concept of ska music Jeebus, none at all. Go buy the self titled Specials album and get back to us.

Has anyone ever noticed that alot of the really good Specials songs are covers of old reggae songs ?

Rudy, A message to you
You're wondering now (one of the best songs ever put on a record)
Monkey Man

There are so many more.

Ah, good to see a Kortatu fan. Damn good band, musically and lyrically (though I don't like their support of ETA). They toured with my favourite oi! band Decibelios in 1985:

I must confess that I don't understand their lyrics. I must also confess that I wouldn't be bothered by their support for Basque self determination.

I support Basque self-determination but I don't support ETA. They may have been progressive during the Franco era but now their just rather aimless terrorists that have committed some pretty nasty atrocities.

I mainly listen to ska in spanish, such as Maldita Vecindad, Nana Pancha, and 15 Letras. There is a huge ska subculture in the Hispanic/Latino urban areas here in South-Central Los Angeles. Bands such as Roncovancoco, Voodoo Glow Skulls, and Matamoska are common sounds at the Allen Theatre in South Gate.

You should check out Espias Secretos. The best latin ska band, IMO.

Floyd.

Madness, but more recently No Doubt (when they started out)

Yeah, I know Ska-P (http://www.ska-p.net). Although I only speak a little Spanish, I understand most of what they're singing. Their lyrics are really great.

PS: The only ska-p album I've got is "El vals del obrero".

There is this band in Houston called the " LOS SKARNALES", good ska music in spanish. They rock!!!

If anyone is in Houston on Jan.30th, 2004, check them out at Fitzgerald's. They are going to be playing with the Toasters and other bands. It's going to be a whole night of SKA music. :P

I know some great local SKA. My freind Jeremy is in a band called The Venkmans. They have this one song called 30 Miles South. They're from Baltimore... what's 30 miles south of that ? DC Maybe?

Great song.
