RFB in Germany

I've just begun researching the Roter Frontkaempfer-Bund, the paramilitary organization associated mainly with the KPD (German Communist Party) in the 1920s. It was rather shortlived, as it was made illegal in 1929, although remained underground throughout the war, participating in the Spanish Civil War and later fighting on the side of the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany. I would love to know more about this group. They protected striking workers and leftist gatherings and actions, and even agitated against rival parties (including the Nazi SA).

Any information or leads on information would be appreciated.
