I strongly suggest reading about Oxfam, it's an amazing organization.

I was thinking about volunteering at the local OXFAM store. Does anyone have any experience with this organisation?

you should work for them if you have time on your hands. the one i work for is often short-staffed and really needs volunteers. its rewarding, and you know the money you raised is going to people who need it.

Ever heard the saying 'Give a man a fish for the day and he will eat for that day but teach a man to fish and he will eat for a life time'?

I had a nice talk with one of those Oxfam people in the street recently, good people doing excellent work but I ended it by telling him 'One solution and that's revolution'. The point is that there's only one way to stop overty in say Africa and that's to end the Imperialism which plauges that continent. I dont know much about the finer details of the African continent but to describe what is and has been going on there as delibirate genocide (it can be prevented easily but guess who gains by it) of tens of millions of people I dont think would be that greater of a exgarration.

Oh btw just realised I saw that quote from a Oxfam advert 10 years ago. LOL

I'm a bit lame on the whole charity thing, I give £2 a month to oxfam and that's about it, but I might be adding action aid to my donations.

I respect their work but it's not enough. Feed the slave enough to survive but don't abolish slavery. I'm not saying Oxfam supports slavery before someone suggests it.

Enver Hoxha,
Are you a member of the IS/SWP?

Sure Oxfam aren't the most perfect organisation, charities aren't allowed to be political like that, but they are fighting the Common Agricultural Policy, which affects farmers in the UK and in the third world.
