Hello everyone, great to join your community!
When people ask about my political views and I tell them I lean to the far left, there is always that awkward moment of silence where they assume that I support starving people and creating personality cults. Glad to see you all use your brains.
Anyway, my political views. I lean more towards the anarchist crowd, although I do recognize that a state is needed to protect the people from imperialist conspirators in this modern world. I admire Lenin a lot, and I understand that even though he was an internationalist, he understood that he had to be practical and create a "nation state" to survive on the world stage. Plus, the socialist trading networks sustain socialist countries, so those are absolutely needed. I am a staunch anti-stalinist and believe that both him and Mao were incredibly incompetent. I understand that they did not DELIBERATELY starve their people, however I think that it says much of their leadership that they were unable to prevent millions of people starving during their respective famines. BUT, I do support a lot of Maoist strategy (not really as much Stalinist strategy other than building mass power plants and collectivization) because of his ability to unite the masses of China in a successful populist movement that improved the rights of certain oppressed groups, mainly women. I can definitely respect that, but I do generally think that Stalin was a failure, and that Mao was a failure when he initiated the great leap forward. I admire Castro's regime a lot more than theirs, although I hate that Castro was anti-gay. It hits hard because I'm also gay, but…. the economic improvements and internationalist efforts (via sending doctors to third world countries) are something to admire.
Okay anyway, I support more of an "anarchist Catalonia"-type collectivization along with the Occupy movement and Egypt-style protests. I am staunchly anti-censorship and I supper the rights of journalists and am a huge advocate of abolishing the current for-profit prison system along with decriminalization of drugs. I think all governments and corporations are corrupt, and I want self determination for all people.
