PFLP commemorates 46th anniversary in Turkey

Supporters of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Turkey commemorated the 46th anniversary of the Front’s founding with an event in Istanbul on Sunday, December 15. Palestinian, Turkish and Kurdish political activists, parties and organizations participated in the event.

Comrade Leila Khaled, member of the Political Bureau of the PFLP, was unable to attend in person due to a flight cancelled by the massive storm in the region. She spoke over Skype to the event, discussing Palestinian national unity and saluting the martyrs and prisoners who have sacrificed for the liberation of Palestine. She discussed the recent convening of the 7th National Conference of the PFLP, saying that the Front was looking at new tactics and revival, addressing and correcting errors in order to better confront Zionism and imperialism.

She said that the Nakba in Palestine is ongoing and that imperialism is a strategic partner of Zionism in the region, including Israel’s ongoing attacks and settlement construction. She demanded an end to the negotiations process with Israel, saying that such efforts could only benefit the occupier while threatening Palestinian rights. She concluded by reading out a greeting from imprisoned PFLP General Secretary, Ahmad Sa’adat, to the event.

Comrade Hassan Tahrawi, representative of the PFLP in Turkey, spoke about the Front’s – and the Palestinian struggle’s – long alliance with both Turkish and Kurdish forces and parties in the country.

Representatives of Fateh and Hamas in Turkey, Abdelmoneim Said and Munir Said, also spoke at the event, greeting the PFLP on its 46th anniversary. Several Turkish and Kurdish speakers greeted the Front and expressed their long connection between their peoples and the Palestinian liberation movement. The event concluded with a documentary film about the history of the Front and a musical performance.

Hamas and Fatah congratulating the PFLP? Should we now include them as allies in our global revolutionary struggle?

PFLP is not a revolutionary organization anymore. sadly, it has become corrupted like many revolutionaries of 20th century. the fact that Hamas and Fateh are supporting it is more than enough to expose its essence.

Alas, it has become another "anti-imperialist/anti-Zionist" rebel group like Hezbollah but with an equally reactionary agenda. In fact, even a brigade called the PFLP "General Command" is fighting in Syria alongside the reactionary Assad and Hezbollah forces. In fact, I was insulted by a PFLP "comrade" on Youtube earlier this year for stating that every revolutionary organization around the world should follow the IRA model (no targeting of civilians or civilian areas but purely military targets) unlike their own strategy in the 1970s which gave Israel the moral excuse to bomb the crap out of Lebanon. Now, I am not condoning Israel's militaristic policies but I do not condone the PFLP's "give no quarter" strategy during the 1970s.

The PFLP and the PFLP-GC are two different organisations with two different ideologies.
Until quite recently, the PFLP has used suicide bombings against civilians though.
