I'm going to wright an essay on how the European Union's creation could have contributed to the cold war in what way and why/why not. And I was wondering if anyone could help me out?

the EU cant be responsible for the cold war since the cold war started before the EU was formed. the EU was most certantly an active part in the cold war once it was formed though.

I agree with Per Levy, it wasn't responsible but it surely didn't help.

The Cold War was the tale of two empires (who loathed to call themselves as such) trying to attain hegemony over the rest of the world, made different by the threat of nuclear annihilation and the pretense of ideological conflict based upon a false dichotomy of state capitalism with a de jure oligarchy and de facto bourgeois ("communism") versus private capitalism with a de facto oligarchy and de jure bourgeois ("democracy"). I believe that it boiled down to the Soviet Union and the United States both being in extremely powerful positions following World War II with mutually exclusive goals to become attain even more influence over all other nations, but only engaged each other in proxy conflicts due in part to the doctrine of Mutual Assured Destruction.

The Cold War was principally between the Soviet Union and its satellites in the Warsaw Pact and the USA and its satellites in NATO. The EU didn't really have any role.
