Though i did just saw a fierce defending of trade unions by the pope passing by on facebook, explicitly mentioning how trade unions save capitalism by forcing social reform so obv nothing revolutionary but he certainly seems the lesser evil compared to the last dude who had his job. You know, the ex-hitlerjugend sithlord who was head of the inquisition (yes really) before becomming pope.

He said: "Marxism may be wrong, but (some) Marxists are good people."
Nothing revolutionary here, although the right is furious, because he suggested that 1) Marxists are people at all and 2) that some of them are, in fact, good people, too.
It is funny to see the right so pissed off at this, though.

I hate to bring Jason Unruhe into this conversation, but he did a video on this topic and (somehow) managed to make an excellent point:
The Catholic Church has, to an extent, ALWAYS been anti-capitalist. But its anti-capitalism is not progressive in nature, but in fact regressive. The church during the Middle Ages imposed various forms of arbitrary economic regulations on merchants and craftsmen in order to uphold the feudal order. The church is not anti-capitalist because it supports socialism, it is anti-capitalist because it supports feudalism.

To deny kautskys Marxism is foolish. All modern marxist currents can be genetically traced to Kautsky, don't take his split with Bernstein for granted.

Social-democracy was what communist parties were called back then. If we are to dismiss him for that we should also dismiss Lenin, Luxemburg, both the Liebknechts, Bebel. Actually all communists before 1917/18 pretty much, I mean if you want to throw about 40 years of history of the workers' movement away, be my guest but I think it's idiotic.
Now, did Kautsky betray Marxism? Yes, I think so. I know a few eurocommunists who don't and I fiercely disagree with their politics. But at least up to 1909 (this is not to say there were no signs of flaws before that, there were many and I disagree with Kautsky on those things) he was calling for revolution, he was a Marxist and not only that he was, arguably, the most important, influential Marxist alive at the time. He had such a massive impact on the thinking of many marxists of the time (most notably Lenin) that not engaging with his writings practically means not being able to understand what the rest of the movement of the time was on about and since so many marxists blindly copy Lenin it means not understanding what they are on about either.
