I'm from Miami, FL
My parents are from Cuba. They are of peasant stock. My father fought in the Sierra (he was a captain) and was later jailed for a short time by Fidel for being a counter-revolutionary. He turned out to be an evil man. I haven't spoken with him since I was nine or ten. I asked my mom once what communism was and her answer was, "Those that are with Fidel." Nothing more, she could not even describe what the communist ideology was. My mom's family came to the States because a relative was already here and was in the military. My mom said she regrets coming here, that over there in Cuba things were good. They had their own house and had benefits.

I am a former citizen of the USSR. In 1995 I moved to this shithole of a nation known as the US. My mother had a masters degree in engineering and since being layed off by a GM contractor, is now working in a clothing store. I am studying to be a computer engineer myself, at the University of Michigan - Dearborn.

I'm from Lancashire, England.
My parents are Anglo-Irish and English. They are middle-income proletarians. They own their own house and car and our family of 7 is a little large, but we have enough income (about £20, 000 per annum) to pay the bills, buy food etc etc)

I'm originally from a small town, Copetown, Ontario, Canada. I now reside in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
My mom is a doctors assistant in a small, country clinic, and my father drives a tour bus. My parents are separated, and mom makes just enough to hover over"Canada's Poverty Line."
I have seen how Capitalism and greed destroys the human being, through 7 years of going to a rich town for middle and high school(It was the closest school to my town). Seeing how greed leads to ignorance, which leads to persecution of those who deviate in even the slightest way (I was constantly under attack by rich people because I was a poor kid from a country town and didnt look straight off of GQ.
Money was so tight in my home after the separation, I only got to shower once every other day, and couldnt afford to see a dentist for 7 years, leading to six cavities. Money is still tight, to the point I had to compormise my educational future by going to the Community College, rather than going to a University which I had hoped to do.
Anything more you wish to know?

I live in Winchester, United Kingdom. Winchester was once the capital of England, prior to 1066. Nowadays it is a small city one hour from London.
My mother and father are retired. My father worked on digital communication throughout the 90s and was on the board of directors at various Media enterprises: NTL, DMV, NDS, at times part of Murdoch's News Corporation. My mother was a Radiographer and once part-time teacher. They are both British and I was born in the city I currently live in.
My sister finished education at 16 and works in an office job now. My brother studies Physics at university. I work about 20 hours a week cleaning in the same hospital I was born in, I also study Politics, Economics and History at College.
It would be interesting to here the political views of your parents. My parents are both very liberal, my father calls himself a socialist.

I live in the Philippines where more than 70% of the people live below poverty line, where there is a massive unequal distribution of wealth, where people vote for movie stars to become leaders, where homeless people make homes under bridges, where the government spends less than 5% of the National Budget on health while spending almost everything for military purposes, where politicians are as corrupt as they could be, where child labor and prostitution is very rampant...
I live in the Philippines and I love my country no matter what... :)

my grandpa left Malta during the great depression looking for work across europe france, italy, spain, portagul, and England...then found himself on a ship from England to Canada....then he came down to Detroit where he married my grandma who he'd known from Malta....they had eleven kids and He worked in a tool mill until retirment in 1990..
My other great grandpa came as a stowaway on a ship from Ireland to Canada....his parents had died form taberculosis....and he was kind of forced labor on a farm....they abused him there so when he turned eleven he hopped on the ship...they lived in Canada until the 1940s when they moved here to Detroit then his grandaughter married my grandpa who'd just graduated college in 49'.....and the family owned a hardware store until the late 80's.....
then my parents met...and i was born!

Born in the medium-sized New Mexican town of Las Cruces. My mother is working on her doctorate in psychology for crisis counseling purposes. My stepdad was a victim of the American dream, investing money in various schemes and even tried opening a eating establishment when I was younger. After the corporate chains invaded our town, our resturant bit the dust - forcing us to move in search of a better living. We relocated twice before ending up here in Texas. Shortly after Bush's election, my father was forced out of employment and was unable to find work for several months. He and my mother divorced shortly after due to financial reasons.
He now lives in near-homeless conditions, and my mother works 2 jobs to support everything. I currently attend University where I am a political science/linguistics major.

I was born in El Salvador and came to North Cali. during the 80's.... In ES my mom worked in a sewing factory (sorta sweatshop conditions...but not as horrid) for 15 yrs with a 6th grade education and my dad went to the university and became an accountant. We were very poor in El Salvador, b/c having a degree doesn't mean you'll get a job...he repaired watches instead. They both came from extremely poor background themselves (no shoes etc.) but we lived somewhat better. Since we've come here, my father has worked labor eventho he's an intellectual w/ a meaningless degree...he ironically works at a place filled with conservatives. My mom is a housekeeper and baby sits for the rich folk....and my brother is a graphic artist. I'm a junior at a university and work at a shitty retail store. Our whole family is leftist with leftist roots in El Salvador, that my family in ES aren't given Visa's to visit us here now after 9/11 :( ...eventho we're leftists I'm far more liberal than all of them. (they dont believe in gay marriage and abortion)

My mom's dad is a tailor's son (and farmer's grandson) from Prague, Czech Republic. My dad's dad was a mechanic at a military airbase in Central Switzerland. My mom is a nurse in a home and my dad's an unemployed mechanical engineer.
As you see, grandparents and further back are working class, now I would call my family middle class. My dad is social-democratic, my mom somewhere in the centre and I am something I don't know really how to describe it.

Born to a single mother in Toronto Ontario
Lived in mostly apartment complexes my entire life, i was never really middle class, more of a lower class family(my mother is on disability, shes blind.) My grandparents are upper middle class but they adopted my mother, for all i know my real grandparents were poor and my grandmother was from scotland, my grandfather is olived skinned, so i don't know exactly were he came from. Father came from germany, came here in the late 70's i believe.
So yeah Im pretty much a european canadian, my mother is a left winger, so that influence rubbed off on me, as well as my sensitivity towards humanitarian issues, minorites and peoples with disabilities. My Step Aunt is Iroquios and my Step Uncle is Jamaica, alot of my cousins are mixed.
I was raised as a protesant and later converted to Buddhist

To answer CM's question. My mum was a committed member of the SWP for about ten years and is now a member of the SSP in Scotland. She would call herself a Marxist.

I am from Tallaght in Dublin a predominantly working class area that is absolutey massive, it is nothing but housing estates for miles with massive unemployment in some areas. Its the shithole of Dublin basically!
One of the reasons I was attracted to left ideas was going to the posh ass college I'm now in and realising my friends who are all now tradesmen etc. were easily capable of surpassing some of the middle class idiots that infest college corridors. The way money influenced who got in disturbed me and still does.
