Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

Accounts are seldomly deleted. Note however that posting in the non-political forums will not count to your postcount.

Also, what are your political ideas, if any? Where are you from and what's the left there like?

Dont be afraid to be deleted, we hardly ever purge the non-posting accounts, you will be getting the anoying automatic remark until you make at least 1 single post in the political sections though. But no rush, it will be a while before I do a clean up again.

Also, welcome...

In my opinion most differences in leftist thought come down to arguments specific to times and places far removed from my own. In Russia of the 1920s, Leninists argued about whether Russia should link up with global revolutions or build up national strength. To call myself a Trotskyist or Stalinist would be an anachronism - neither option is on the table in the nation I live in. Similarly there are positions I could hold that I couldn't do anything about, like whether to "support" various leftist governments around the world (I have a lot of admiration for Cuba, for what it's worth, even if Cuba's revolution has an uncertain future). But if my "support" for those governments can only ever amount to praise on internet forums, it's not a position worth labelling myself over (how can I call myself a Maoist if I've never even held a firearm, let alone met a Naxalite?)

So I describe myself only as a socialist. It's a vague term because the specifics of leftist governance are so far away from me. I live in Britain, if you hadn't guessed. I was a pretty happy member of the Socialist Party (they are nominally Trotskyist) for about a year but there's no branch local to me now.

Should be deleted for that entrance alone. ;)

Well, the point is about strategy: What is the way forward in the socio-political context we're in?

On this question there are many possible answers. Comintern-ists (Trotskyists, 'Marxist-Leninists', Maoists), left-communists and orthodox Marxists all offer a different strategic thinking. It might help to get to know their differences to find your bearing.

Welcome.

Good news... We have quite a few British members here who, I assume, are perfectly willing to point you towards organizations there. If you interest is internationalist communism we also have quite a few Trotskyists and Left Communists around here who could be of assistance.
