I suppose on the one hand, it's great that we know it's there for a number of reasons - in a remotely sensible society it'd be fab that we had such a reserve of fresh water for emergencies. In the here and now, however, I'm really not looking forward to seeing how this resource is going to be exploited/abused.

Could be used for good - I mean under socialism and with newer technology, I could see how MAYBE it could be sustainable and efficient for people living in desert regions along the coast to desalinate somewhat small amounts of ocean water to drink. But obviously the capitalists can't be trusted to use any technology responsible, which absolutely includes this. The more weapons in their arsenal, the more damage they can do.
