Hello, everybody. Sorry that I didn't do this earlier. Anyway, I'm a 22 year old transsexual woman living in the state of Georgia, but will most likely move to Ontario, Canada within the next 2 years. I will not say I'm well educated on politics, but I'm willing to learn and hopefully this community will help with that. I would be also interested in networking in the area.
I came to identify as a socialist after listening to Thom Hartman’s radio program and speaking to Vermont senator Berney Sanders. After hearing some lectures from Marxist economist Richard Wolff, I’m convinced that the idea of a Co-operative Common Wealth seems like a valid alternative to capitalism. I find the idea of putting direct democracy into people’s everyday lives, the private sector losing its oligarchs, and the priority of private companies becoming the public welfare instead of profit to be very appealing. This is especially so after learning about the success of Mondragon in Spain and the workers’ siege of factories in Argentina: it seems like something that could actually work in the future. This is especially something I want to learn more about.
Also, I firmly believe in nonviolent struggle and revolution, both on moral and practical grounds. I have some of Gene Sharpe's books on the subject, and would recommend them to anyone; his writings have helped nonviolent revolutions all over the world.
Some other issues I'm interested in are feminism, lgbt rights, labor rights, and enviornmentalism. Outside of that, my hobbies include theater, gaming, and roleplaying. someotheer interestings facts about me might be that I have Asperger's Syndrome and that I am currently in a long distance relationship. If you have any questions or comments, don't be shy!
p.s. Sorta as a joke to fit the forum I made my avatar the titular character of the anime Revoluntionary Girl Utena.
