Hello, everyone,

My name is Damon and I'm here as a humble guest to expand upon what I know (and what I think I know). I hope to find myself some guides through the world of social consciousness, as well as some new friends.

I'm pretty terrible at introductions, I know...

I discovered this forum through general internet searches. It seems that RevLeft is a more popular forum for the socially aware. I literally just discovered the forum today, so I haven't had a chance to lurk around and quietly study up on the nature of modern "leftism" (if you will); but from what I saw it seemed like the sort of forum that I would be interested in participating in.

I'll admit right from the get-go that I do not have much of an education, especially not specifically in areas like social science or social ideology; however, I have a sincere interest in society as a whole and the world of ideas that surrounds society.

We live in a rapidly changing world, and there is no real telling how the next handful of decades is going to play out. Now is the time to truly solidify what one believes in and do what they can to help make the world a better place; because, let's face it, the world of organized mankind is crumbling in a very real and accelerating chaos.

If there is anything more specific that anyone would like to know, please ask and I will do my best to answer.

Thank you all in advance for allowing me, as a humble guest, to participate in your forum community. I look forward to expanding my horizons, and perhaps contributing something meaningful to your community.

Damon

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

What are your own political ideas, if anything in specific? Also, what's the left like in your area?

Welcome fellow Midwesterner. Whereabouts are you? (Not specifically, but regionally). I'm in the Chicago suburbs.

What are your own political ideas, if anything in specific?

I'm a little timid about personal politics. I'm not one, personally, for high tension subjects like politics or religion; however, I know that such subjects are absolutely crucial in this ever-changing world. So, know that if I do share my political, philosophical, or ideological positions, I am not aiming for controversy or competition.

Personally, I feel pretty strongly about education and healthcare specifically. I come from a very poor background, and as such, I have a very limited academic education, and I have also experienced a great deal of sickness in my life. Over the last three decades I've come to the conclusion that a society is only as healthy and intelligent as its people, so it only stands to reason that any society concerned about health and/or education would not consider either of those things as something to be profited off of. To be straight forward: healthcare and education should be a right, and should not come at great cost (or any cost, aside from standard taxing of earned wages).

Also to be perfectly blunt, I detest capitalism (not to sound stereotypical or anything). The notion that an artificially determined value assigned to little green pieces of paper can somehow alter the inherent value of a human being is a sign of insanity.

Also, what's the left like in your area?

Is anyone familiar with Madison, Wisconsin?
