This made me feel all warm and tingly inside. Just goes to show that your average lumpen is still better than all of those petty bourgeois suburbanites going on about "family values" and what not.

Are these actual 1%ers, or do they just embrace "biker culture"/fashion?

I only ask because 1% MCs often seem to represent one of the more crass and hedonistic criminal elements out there, although they're people too and thus probably have some of the same concerns as anyone else

According to the article they are "members of the Arizona chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse International."
Here is their website's FAQ: http://bacaworld.org/faqs/
So I would say that they are not 1%ers.

Describing them as "lumpen" is probably not necessarily accurate then.

yea you're right, it's never good to throw around that term because unfortunately it has negative connotations.

They were in Bad Grandpa. Probably the best scene of the movie, it's hilarious and they get so close to beating the shit out of the actor before they're told it's an act.

I think the point was more that the term just isn't accurate in this case; these people aren't a "biker gang" in the sense of an organized crime syndicate as far as I can tell. They're more 'bikers' as like a subculture, which hardly makes someone 'lumpen'.
IDK, my partner works at an espresso stand that has become popular with some elements of the Bandidos/'Hombres' around here (for reasons entirely unrelated to coffee), and as someone who generally doesn't like the moralistic connotations of the word "lumpen", it honestly seems like way too generous a word to describe some of these types. They're definitely not the sort of people who are going to be out comforting victims of abuse, that's for sure.
