I have a question for all the communists out there. What do you believe, specifically, makes capitalism oppressive? I have heard some communists call people who live in capitalist countries: slaves to capitalism. What about the term: wage-slavery? I am not against communism as a theory but I cannot understand the term slave or bloodsucker when used to define the average american.
:) :P

They must work to produce the profit for a few people rather than work for themselves or the betterment of the community as a whole.
They are "wage-slaves" because they don't have the realistic freedom to do what they want. They only work so that they can put food on the table, roof over their heads, and maybe, just maybe if they work hard enough they'll get a measly Christmas bonus. They might have the "freedom" to quit, but in actuality, they have no such luxury. When they quit, they have no food, no shelter; they would quickly die out if it wasn't for welfare. If they rebel, or try to get better working conditions or higher wages, they're thrown on the streets and the next suckers on the street are highered.
In America, people have a higher level of freedom to chose their jobs than in many third world countries thanks to much socialist legislature that has been passed. But it's still not nearly enough; countless amount of people suffer daily for problems outside their control while a select few profit off their toiling.

Thank you for your response Bradyman but I'm afraid I must ask another question. Forgive me, I am not familiar with the details of communism. But, you state indirectly that under communism, one works for something other than themselves or their families. Is this true? Under communism one works for the betterment of the community as a whole? What do people work for in communist countries if not for money to pay their living expenses and spend freely? Are wages considered absolete and petty or even slavery? Does the entire community benefit from one individuals toil more so than in any other system of government? If so, than what serves as motivation to work if they have the rare luxury of quitting without the consequence of debt or poverty?
