View Full Version : Classic Rock station's racist talk: "There is an Iraqui woman, she is a terrorist"

Today I was listening to the classical rock station around here (which is an ultra-right wing radio station) full of sick anti-black, anti-gays, anti-obese, anti-latinos jokes and today I heard them saying something like this: "There was an Iraqui woman today, she must be a terrorist".
There is racism not only coming from the government, but from the movies, in the media, in the TV shows, in the music, in the radio stations, hate-talk is all over the place in America and lack of creativity to write good jokes lead to racist and hateful jokes.
The coming socialist worker's government will have a hard time curing racism from the minds of millions of americans

Oh, no we wouldn't!
Our highly elite secret police will dig deep into everyone's minds and force the racism out of them!!!
Just kidding, ok here's what I proposed, we simply start releasing media that deals with anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-whatever themes simply by supporting those who make and produce media with these themes.(The *good* kind I mean, those with racist or otherwise *bad* themes will simply be banned or not supported at all)
And also such media should be marketed and promoted well, with all sort of toys, models, and T-shirts to go with them, like all those Disney and Big-name shows.
Think this is far fetched?
Check out this link which may be relevent:
"Games with exclusively female heroes don’t sell (because publishers don’t support them)"
http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/games-with-female-heroes-dont-sell-because-publishers-dont-support-them
Basically the title said most of it, thus we need all types of media, like games, to overwhelm all those anti-black, anti-gays, anti-obese, anti-latinos, anti-whatevers with socialist values!

I know of only 2 programmatic (communist) solutions to racism within the working class. Black Nationalism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_nationalism) or Revolutionary Integration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary_integrationism#Origins). If we are not counting the struggle for equality within the system itself (equal levels of exploitation for all).
So as an ML do you support black nationalism? My understanding is that most "anti revisionists" follow the Stalin line that blacks in the US constitute a nation unto themselves and therefore support Black Nationalism.
Trotsky was also was inclined to support self-determination of Southern Blacks in the 30s. The SWP and a few other Trot groups today support Black Nationalism and it is part of their program.
From my experience most anarchists believe that the State itself is the source of racism and that it's destruction will allow for equality to develop and communists believe there needs to be a specific program that works to make sure minorities are not oppressed. Of those programs I know of only two: Self-Determination or Integration and the theories are thoroughly conflicting.
Are there other solutions? Am I wrong about what most anarchists think?
I personally advocate for the theory of Revolutionary Integration.

This sounds like you want some organized group of people to oppress the capitalist press. It surely doesn't comply any notions of freedom of speech.

Well, you already have some organized group of people who propagate ideas that oppress minorities, and make life hard for them to live as they choose and sometimes even dangerous. :crying:
For example, the sexism in games as I've linked to, and the radio stations in the opening post, while stuff that encourages non-sexism, and others, are not usually well promoted in general, yes, there are exceptions but hate seems to sell because they are better supported.
This surely doesn't comply any notions of freedom of speech! (Though some may say this is how the world is)
This surely doesn't comply any notions of freedom of speech, so why not support groups that propagate anti-racism, anti-sexism and oppress them and so forth in a good way?
And why not have organized group of people to oppress the capitalist press, or at least try to?
By the way, race is an illusion, a very powerful one, but an illusion nevertheless, and we should, with organized groups of people, like you seemly suggest, propagate ideas to break this illusion.;)

Classic Rock station that is anti black you say?
I guess those idiots don't know their history, since Led Zeppelin built their career from stealing licks, riffs, and songs from old black Blues players and then made millions of dollars off of it.
How can you be a rock music fan and racist at the same time? If it weren't for the Blues guys you wouldn't have classic rock period.

Led Zeppelin usually gave credit to who wrote the song, at least, which is more then I can say for a lot of other bands. It's a blues tradition to play songs in your own style, so blues covers are very commonplace, as I'm sure you know.
I've actually had an argument with someone about this before; the person tried telling me the bands would sound virtually the same if the blues didn't exist..

Led Zeppelin was sued over and over by Blues Musicians that fought them over the credit for the songs they stole, and yes they flat out stole them. Note for note, and lyric for lyric and then Jimmy Page and Robert Plant stuck their names on the songs giving no credit whatsoever to the old Blues guys until they were sued.
Pull up the credits to an old edition of one of the first few albums and then the credits to the remasters and you will see huge differences.
You obviously don't know about this. Blues covers are common but when other Rockers did it such as The Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, etc they gave credit by putting the original names in the credits instead of putting their name on it and claiming they wrote it like Page and Plant did.
Without the Blues, Rock wouldn't exist, and no not most of them sound the same. There's a big variety going through Blues heavyweights though it's a limited genre.
