When I was in Texas, I encountered such folks among the homeless milieu, traveler kids basically. Had a conversation with a couple of them once, they said they were actually making quite a bit of money asking random people at overpass intersections, sometimes people would give them free drugs too.

Yeah, if you're good at it and in a decent spot you can rake in tons of money. Some traveling kids that crashed at our house awhile ago found out about us when they were flying a sign at a Wal-Mart and they made something like $150 in about 2 hours.

It's definitely a talent.
