George W. Bush Paints Cats Now

http://cdn.theatlantic.com/newsroom/img/upload/wire/2013/11/19/AP050203016816/lead_large.jpg

Courtesy of an otherwise annoying feature on young Barbara Bush's "perfect airy, one bedroom apartment" in Manhattan, Vogue brings us some Very Important Art News today: painter and former President George W. Bush has entered his cat period.

We've known about W.'s painting hobby for a while now, but his favorite subject used to be dogs. The Wire's Elspeth Reeve has theorized that Bush is the dogs in his paintings — he is artfully representing the pain he feels over his lost presidency through the soulful eyes of golden retrievers. But now, cats.

Barbara reveals that her dad painted this portrait of her cat, Eleanor, as a Valentine's Day gift. According to the Daily Mail, Barbara shares Eleanor with her boyfriend. So perhaps this is her dad's way of telling her that even though she's an adult now, he will always love her (and her cat). The red tones in the background seem to amplify that message. Barbara appreciates the sentiment as well as the painting's artistic value: "He’s an excellent artist," she tells Vogue.

Incidentally, Barbara lives in a really nice apartment in the West Village.

so fucking awesome (http://www.thewire.com/politics/2013/11/george-w-bush-paints-cats-now/355292/)

Jezebel also had this to say on the matter (http://jezebel.com/fuck-george-bush-and-his-stupid-fucking-cat-paintings-1468548350).

Add it to the reasons why so many Americans down right adore him since Obama turned out to be a joke. They act like the light shined out of his ass ever since we got a black man in office.

Speak slowly, I'm painting the cats, Barbara!

Always knew he was borderline retarded.

Come on, man. You've been repeatedly warned about this on the forums.

There are many non-neurotypical people on this forum and shit like that is downright offensive.

Iocasta, I guess.

Or perhaps the bourgeois liberal outrage over "THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER" and "HOW CAN AMERICA BE SO STUPID", and the fawning over Obama have caused a fairly predictable backlash. Not that seeing Bush in a positive light isn't stupid - the man's a war criminal for fuck's sake - but so is Odroner.

There are many non-neurotypical people on this forum and shit like that is downright offensive.Right, so what the fuck do you mean by "speak slowly"?

Right, so what the fuck do you mean by "speak slowly"?

Holy crap, calm down.

It was a phrase that popped in political art used during the anti-Bush protests to allude to the guy as an idiot (which he was). It was not meant to be insulting to you or anyone else.

I never knew war criminals retired and became pseudo-Impressionist painters.

I have to say I kinda like the drawings lol

but that doesn't have anything to do with him being a horrible president and a crony for the worst elements of society alongside dick.

I for one consider George W. Bush's foray onto the art naïf scene a fantastic development. Perhaps this label is unwarranted though, as the composition of this piece ["Eleanor"(?)] shows what seems to be a quite deliberate attentiveness to the rule of thirds. The felis catus as leitmotiv is another sure indication of the man's new found lucidity, demonstrating a remarkable ability to tap into contemporary trends in art consumption.

Fun fact: W. is a cousin of Grandma Moses.

Brilliant. Loving the consistency across this board. Wouldn't your time be better served doing a better job of modding the learning forum, which is a sprawling mess, than picking someone up on their anger at someone else's horrific comment.

The third one reminds me of Engels's drawing of Max Stirner for some reason. :D

A. Bush was never a moron. Despite what many choose to believe the dude is a pretty good actor and playing amiable looks a lot like what he did (plus it was a convenient way to shift all blame onto the shadowy Cheyney).
B. Bush was just a face. He didn't choose policy, he just read it to us.
C. Those are really cute cat pictures paintings. I'm surprised by Bush II's talent.

It was not meant to be insulting to you or anyone else.So it's just a soft way to call him a retard? I didn't feel insulted; I was just surprised by your hypocrisy. Well, to be honest, whether or not I was surprised is debatable.

There's a big difference between the terms 'idiot' and the terms 'retard', buddy. A big difference.

"Well, he used to be an actor..."
"He used to be in art school and paint..."
"He paints in his spare time..."

Are probably some of the scariest and most foreboding descriptions of people in history.
