I didnt drop out, but one of my best friends did. Its kinda been shitty in some ways (I know he wants to get his ged or whatever its called) but he's still been able to get cool jobs. He's worked predominantly at a vineyard out in BC, or at the local aviation center where we re from. I won't say much since you asked for the opinions of people who have dropped out, but Id suggest against it (if your thinking about it). HS isn't all that hard to be honest, you just have to humor the teachers even if you know what they teaching is bullshit. Delay being forced into the proletarian grind for as long as you can.

I dropped out of high school and it 'worked out' for me in the sense that I have a job and stuff... If that's what you mean. If you're thinking of doing it feel free to pm me, but I think I said in another thread, life doesn't always pan out the way you expect it to when you're 16 or 17, which sounds as condescending now as it did when adults said that shit to me when I was that age. Its a serious decision and you won't be able to predict what comes next, make sure you do it for the right reasons.
For what it's worth I've never regretted it. School felt like a prison, I can't see how anyone makes it through.
Edit: if you drop out get your GED, I took mine a few months after I dropped out and it was crazy how easy it was. The questions felt on par with the proficiency test I took when I was a sophomore. The community college I took mine at offered free prep classes to those who wanted them though, I'm not sure if that's the case everywhere. I've never had any employer give me any grief or even mention it.

i dropped out to work. my mom had 6 of us and my dad left. my first job was at burger king, i hated it. i eventually started doing construction and remodeling work. i got my ged, and even got some college. noone can say how things would be different right now had i finished high school. personally i think the biggest danger of dropping out is the false security of "i can get my ged whenever i want", and using this as an excuse to procrastinate. i know people like that. i also never met an employer who wanted to know about high school vs ged once they see you have college. i would advise against dropping out, but if someone does, getting a ged and college is necessary.

I have a few close friends who dropped out of high school. They've done relatively well for themselves, if you don't think about it in purely economic terms. One runs an anarcha-feminist zine distro (http://fight-boredom.com/) of some zine-world prestige, and has a book coming out in the near future. One is a carpenter and musician (http://dirtykills.bandcamp.com/), and is able to tour somewhat regularly (typically playing DIY punk venues, and not making money, but generally covering expenses). The third is also a carpenter and farm labourer, who plays guitar in a band (http://remoteoutposts.blogspot.ca/2013/11/root-rot-demo-tape-2012.html) that sounds more like CRASS than any other band on the planet (think Penis Envy vocals but a Feeding of the 5000 sound) - determined luddites who refuse to put their music on the internet.
All three are white, and two are from relatively poor families, things which I guess contextualize both high school and whatever comes after.
