I hope this doesn't turn into another "list a bunch of songs you like" thread, but I realized recently that many great songs have 'cinematic moments' - the part that just makes the song. You'll listen to the whole song just to get to that moment. Anyone have one? Make sure to say which moment you dig about it.
Here are a few of mine.
Radiohead - Go To Sleep
When the drums kick in
Aesop Rock - No Regrets
The last line before the last chorus
The Beatles - Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite
"Over men and horses, hoops and garters, and lastly through a hog's head of real fire"
Interpol - Say Hello To The Angels
The part at the end where the bass acts against the guitar
Led Zeppelin - The Lemon Song
The winding-down riff
Lifesavas - Hellohihey
"Your ego"
Nas - N.Y. State of Mind Pt. 1
When his flow changes with the beat near the middle
RJD2 - The Horror
Where the ascending sound first overlaps the repeating sound
Ravi Shankar - Hari Om
"Chanti, Chanti"
The White Stripes - Apple Blossom
The first piano/guitar verse-ender
The White Stripes - There's No Home For You Here
The sustained note
Atmosphere - Cats Van Bags
When they first say the title
Deltron 3030 - Madness
The female vocals
Tenacious D - Double Team
When the last quarter of the song starts
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper
There are a billion little moments I love in this song
The Doors - The End
"It hurts to set you free, but you'll never follow me"
That was a lot more than I thought I'd think of the first time around. Appropriate song to end it on, anyways.
edit more:
The Beatles - Happiness Is A Warm Gun
When the song completely shifts gears
Chris Cornell - Like Suicide (the acoustic version)
Around the 4:25 mark, it's hard to describe
Bob Marley - I Shot The Sheriff
If I am guilty, I will pay!
Turbonegro - Get It On
The first really distinguishable lick, around the 1:23 mark
RJD2 f/ Copywrite - June
"It's for life, until my final mic check is cashed" / Classical guitar (same moment)
Cake - Comfort Eagle
The first time the sitar-sounding keyboard comes in
Murder City Devils - Lemuria Rising
After the first chorus ends
