Enslavement and repression of Pygmy peoples in West Africa and the Congo?

Does anyone have any information on this? I was watching a documentary on Aka hunter-gatherers in the Congolese jungle when I heard about the apparent mass-enslavement/serfdom/racism being forced upon them and other 'pygmy' (I have no idea if this is a racist term or not) groups in the region, from treating them as 'subhuman' (I love how the majority of [often racist] groups that have gone around calling people 'savages' and 'subhuman', like the white supremacists of the European crowns or imperial Japan, ended up doing some of the most savage things in human history) to cannibalising and murdering them as if they were animals to enslavement to genocide for gaining control of mineral-rich regions of the congo. Apparently this insane racism is alive at a lesser extent in West Africa, with pygmies being deprived of their land, coerced or forced into servitude to West African farm and landowners. Fucked up.

Also, I'd use another word than pygmy but it seems the ridiculous colonial term has no alternative eponym.
