Is Land And Freedom correctly depicting the Spanish Civil War?
It seems that it's loosely based on the Homage to Catalonia by Orwell...

I think Homage to Catalonia was probably an influence but as far as i'm aware there were a lot of other sources that also went into the film.

The movie shows us the POUM point of view.
I believe that Ken Loach was influenced by Orwell and other Trotskyist texts.
The movie presents an extremely negative view of the Spanish Communist Party, that at that moment was entirely depending on the Soviet Union, and offers a very superficial representation of the anarchists. The communist played a huge part in the dismantling of the POUM, hence Loach point of view is justifiable.

My history teacher in the senior year of high school (one year ago) showed us some parts of the movie and from what I've seen I think it's great. It shows us that war and revolution are not a bed of roses. There is a lot of suffering.
However, I haven't watched the whole movie yet. I plan to :grin:
