Greetings RevLeft!

As my username suggests, I'm from Canada. I'm a small business owner in my early 30s. My interests include US politics, economic theory, libertarianism and the personalities behind it. (Everything from the originators of the movement such as Mikhail Bakunin to the followers of Murray Rothbard, who have co-opted the name in more recent times)

I'm not an activist, though a sympathize with and respect those who are. There is a vibrant scene of dedicated socialists in my city gravitating around the larger organized labour movement. I generally don't do protests, though I couldn't resist spending some time at Occupy, both here and in New York. I prefer stimulating conversation on the internet to clashing with law enforcement in the cold.

Politically, I refuse to be tagged with a neat label. I'm not happy with the current status quo of rule by bankers and their buddies.

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

What's the Canadian left like?

Thank you, I look forward to many enlightening exchanges of ideas.

Canada is geographically large, so I can't speak for the whole country. In British Columbia I would say the left is quite well organized thanks to the existence of a few strong (mostly) public sector unions. There is a diversity of opinion from moderate social democrat to ardent supporters of state communism. Only very moderate views receive mainstream attention, limited to issues supported to various degrees by all major parties anyway, as opposed to fundamental issues. The NDP was dealt a crushing electoral defeat recently; a failure of an arrogant leadership. Student unions are ubiquitous, with very high levels of student engagement.
