"No matter what one thinks of Bolshevism, it is undeniable that the Russian Revolution is one of the great events of human history, and the rise of the Bolsheviki a phenomenon of world-wide importance. Just as historians search the records for the minutest details of the story of the Paris Commune, so they will want to know what happened in Petrograd in November 1917, the spirit which animated the people, and how the leaders looked, talked, and acted." - John Reed. Having said that, more important than the events themselves are the subsequent results of those events and how we analysise them and how we learn and apply that analysis to our current situation.

Oh and in 1917 the Paris Commune was still a living memory...

And occupy wallstreet, the arab spring, and the london riots of 2012 can still recall the days of the cold war. Not that those things are of the same scale of the Paris Commune

A very important day indeed, when the seeds of Socialism were sown.

The most momentous event of the twentieth century. Its legacy memory will permeate into the consciousness of future struggles.

In the beginning was the Russian Republic ... and in the end.
The point was a backhanded way of saying that post 1920s RSFSR wasn't run by socialists, lacked soviets, and was nothing to celebrate.

MOD NOTE: Moving this to Non-Political because as wonderful as the anniversary is, the History forum is not really the place for posting Happy Birthday X Historical Event threads. If anyone significantly disagrees with this, feel free to PM me.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cast doubt onto your established narrative. I forgot that Leninists were the only ones who could say anything about the October Revolution. Foolish me.

In all fairness I understand that this is not a political statement but rather simply a eulogy to the Soviet past.
However, the fall of the soviet union spelled the end of the 2nd larges imperialist power on earth and was a great victory for the working class. Hence it's fall is a date to be celebrated almost as much as it's rise. I know you are not engaging in appologia here but it's always important to remember this in any nostalgic discussion about the USSR

Well, let's see.
In my OP, I gave a link to an article where in the photos, "comunists" are protesting on this day.
Weather I agree with them or not, that's another issue.

That still doesn't warrant it being in the History forum which is for discussions about historic events, what happened, their impact, who was involved etc, not just for acknowledging anniversaries and whether they are celebrated or not.

But you put it in the non-political.
See the problem?
While it might not be appropriate for the history one, it isn't appropriate for the non-political either.

Yes, I do. But I still think it's the most appropriate place for this thread, pending the introduction of a forum that can fit in between Non-Political and the more "serious" subforums of the board. The rest of the thread confirms that.
If you want to actually discuss the political impact of the October revolution and how it is celebrated today, that's fine but you need to consider writing an introductory post that is conducive to that discussion rather than a picture with a link to more pictures and no commentary.

OP must have missed this picture. The woman with the sign is saying something like, excuse me but I'm not great at it and there's something that deviates from standard here that makes it hard for me to read but it goes something like, "Welcome gays, Ukraine! You have already let in 300[million?] LGBT pedophiles". I hope I'm wrong on this, as, like I said, my Russian is terrible.
The picture within the sign at the top reads I think, "Open Ukraine! European Values come!"

I can only tell what is going on there from what is shown in the article.
Which those anti-LGBT people there do not share my views on sexuality.
