basically, the u$a got pissed off because arbenz was looking to carry out land reforms against the interests of the united fruit company. in 1952, u$ president truman gave the secret police approval to begin shipping guns and money to opposition forces and training mercenaries.

Ah, so United Fruit had something to do with this as well. I hate that company. They are a perfect example of the greedy American corporation.
They also happen to be headquartered in my city, though with a new name.
