It's like the Jason Voorhees line of paramilitary fashion.

What Threat Level? (http://www.commondreams.org/further/2013/11/01-0)

Taiwan just unveiled (http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/10/21/taiwanese-government-introduces-terrifying-special-forces-clone-army/) its new Special Forces (http://uschinareportblog.com/?tag=taiwan-special-forces-series) uniform. It's deemed capable of confronting a Threat Level (http://www.tote.com.au/threatlevel.htm) 2, out of four levels. Not sure where protesters fit in amidst the seemingly mild threats (http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2013/10/27/2003575486)ostensibly facing Taiwanese law and order, but the goal is evidently to scare the beejesus out of troublemakers of whatever stripe so they curl up in a ball and whimper for their moms. Such is progress.

Yea, looking at this stuff I doubt a homemade explosive wouldn't be able to do the trick. The thing is that most of this stuff is meant for the growth of cartels. It's not because they expect revolutions, it's because the drug business is growing so rapidly that these groups can organize paramilitaries all on their own. If you look closely, it's all bulletproof armor, if you disarm him and go in with some sort of melee weapon it will probably do even more damage rather than protect them simply from looking at how bulky it is, how many metal parts it has, and how thin that bulletproof mask looks. Just get a bunch of guys with iron baseball bats and you'll make quick work of them. Of course that's the point, they don't fear a mass uprising, otherwise they wouldn't waste their money on something which clearly makes their pigs more vulnerable to basic household weapons while making them somewhat invulnerable to small arms fire.

Imperial storm troopers much

Look i can understand why they would have such a mask against thrown bottles and such but this is just the sort of thing you expect some bad guy to use for a uniform in some distopian science fiction movie.
