I've seen this article posted a lot recently on Facebook for some reason, mostly by women. It's really a shame that this attitude has become popular. What does it say about our culture? :unsure:

Just some ol' madonna/whore complex in livejournal form. What I think is especially laughable that "men" (the specific subsection of men the article is talking about) want anything but a woman with confidence. They want someone to have sex with and then someone who will clean up after them.

Obviously, the bottom line is someone who subscribes to a worldview such as the one in this article doesn't respect women or consider them equals no matter how they carry themselves -- as evidenced by the blatant double standard with excusing male promiscuity while going on about how women's promiscuity makes them undesirable.

Don't think this is anything new for any of us tho.

This is why I don't get why some women also subscribe to this view. Our culture embraces 'sexy.' Like, Halloween just passed, and you go to a store and it's all 'sexy' this and 'sexy' that. So, you have women who oppose this, which I can understand, but they do it through the lens of 'that's not how women should act' which comes from the male double-standard you mentioned. But, I digress.

I mean, our culture demands everything at once. Women are expected to be sexually available but also "virginal and pure". If they're one, they get criticized for not being the other. And it's pretty wild to read the article and think "wow someone actually committed these words to paper without picking up the subtext in their own words". Like yo, why would a woman want to be a "good girl" to snag someone who's just going to cheat on them, as "men" (read: manchildren) are apparently genetically predisposed to do.

Again I don't think I'm breaking any new ground here and we're just preaching to the choir posting this on here, but goddamn is it hard to not go on about how dumb this article is anyway.

Hah, the problem with female sexuality in our modern era most certainly isn't that women don't fit some "nice girl" gender role that was defined by an arbitrary selection of men

I don't really think it's "Madonna whore complex", that's more like a phenomenon in which an individual has extremely low self-respect, idolizes some woman for some reason, then when that individual gets into a relationship with the woman, she becomes a whore, because only a whore would get into a relationship with someone as worthless as someone with MWC sees themselves.

Anyway, I don't pay much attention to such articles like in the OP, esp. ones which lament some sort of decay in civilization :rolleyes: whether it's in gender roles, or language, or whatever.

It's the phenomenon of 'slut-shaming'. Somehow the idea of a woman being able to enjoy her sexuality as freely as a man seems to drive some people crazy. It's a double standard that drives me nuts....a double standard so nakedly obvious you could practically photograph it.

This in turn creates a completely unfair burden for women to bear...to be freely 'sexy' yet not able to freely enjoy sex.

Question for the author of the article. Why on earth would a "good girl" want to get with a man who has openly admitted he has not only spent his younger years sleeping around but also plans to cheat on her. Hold yourself to the same standards as you hold others. Don't you wonder if maybe the first step to getting a "good girl" is being a "good boy"
(note i don't have a problem with people sleeping around, i just don't like hypocrisy.)

Oh I fucking despise people who do this. As someone who has studied linguistics, to me people who complain about spoken dialects and slang not matching up with the 'perfect' static written form are just the biggest don't-know-what-they-are-talking-about morons to ever walk the earth.

I mean, if these 'grammar-nazis' (because apparently regional grammatical changes are somehow an evil that needs to be stamped out) are so obsessed with lingual purism, then they should go and fucking revive proto-Indo-European. After all, English is just the result of 'bastardised languages' upon 'bastardized languages' from PIE (along with Bengali, Greek, Parsi, Armenian, Russian, Latin, etc. etc.)
