This is a symbolic issue I was thinking about. Should our party, the Israeli CP, raise the flag of Israel in addition to the red and palestinian flag?

The red flag - it's obvious, the flag of the working class.

The palestinian flag - because they are an opressed and occupied nation.

But the israeli flag....

On the one hand, we consider ourselves the true israeli patriots, because we support justice and peace for the big majority of the israeli people (the workers and small-businesses). So if we consider it the flag of the israeli people we should raise it.

On the other hand, we are also anti-zionists. And the israeli flag does symbolizes zionism, which is the doctorine of racism against arabs and exploitation of workers. So if we consider it the flag of zionism we shouldn't raise it.

Alot of time I never thought about raising a blue & white flag, but after I thought about it........ well, don't know........... what do you think?

I'd say no. I consider it similar to the old South African flag.

But from a political stance, it would be better if you did. I mean, what would it look like if you had only the red flag and Palestinian flag?

Some might take the flying of both the of flags palestine and Israel as a message of uniting the two countries. If that's what your aim is.

its a bit of a confusing situation well especially for me cos im arab. but if their was another way to symbolize Israel beside the flag i would say use that instead, because ur right, the flag does sybolize the evils of Zionism, so ur in a bit of a fix.

I'd say yes, raise the Israeli flag. All things considered, it would be the better choice. I don't think it neccessarily has to represent Zionism, just the country of Israel. It would be a show of solidarity between the two countries.

Maybe if u didnt raise israeli flag, u would isolate yourselves from the working class, and thats never good

yeah, raise all three.

You shouldn't not raise it because some people choose it symbolise Zionism.

Politically, I think it might be best not to use either the Israeli flag or the Palestinian flag. They're both so incredibly loaded as far as what they symbolize goes. You can't fly one group's flag without alienating a large number of the other group.

Raise none of them. Just raise a white flag with a red hammer & sickle :)

freedom is what palestine needs

And the Israeli working class lives in freedom?

Just fly the red flag.

i was referring to digital nirvana's claim that they need unity.

but yeah, all working classes need freedom.

Palestine will never be free unless there is a level of unity among the working classes. Extreme zionist policies in Israel will not be withdrawn unless the Israeli working class realises that it is as much a slave to zionism as the Palestinians are.

unity will help a lot, but ultimately they need freedom.

BOZG
18th January 2004, 19:13
But they cannot have freedom without unity.

Intifada
18th January 2004, 19:14
why not?

BOZG
18th January 2004, 19:21
Because it's in the interests of the Israeli ruling class and capitalists to keep the Israeli and Palestinian working classes divided (like in Northern Ireland). And the guise of extreme Zionism will always be used and this can only be overthrown by the political realisations of the Israeli working class. When zionism falls, so will Israeli capitalism. And if the Israeli people are to reach those conclusions, it would be extremely likely they'd have realised the plight of the Palestinian people at the same time.

Intifada

so palestinian freedom is in the hands of the israeli working class?

BOZG

Not entirely, but it is interlinked with the struggle for freedom of the Israelis.
