Greetings fellow comrades I would like you opinion on the new Australian leader Tony Abbott, I for one can't stand him and was severely depressed when I woke up one morning to find he was in power. I live on the Northern Beaches which is a very liberal (that means conservative here in Australia) voting area and Tony Abbott's very own electorate (Warringah) is in it, though many of the people in my school (probably the entire school) hate Tony Abbott and were very vocal about how much they hate him when a lot of their parents probably voted for him and one of my teachers said that he doesn't know how Tony Abbott got in because he said that all the people he asked hated Tony Abbott (vote rigging perhaps:lol:).

I personally think Tony Abbott is a racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic, fundamentalist christian bigot but what are all your opinions, all opinions from all countries are welcome.

Bigoted Catholic reactionary arse. Surely the worst Prime Minister we've had in a while.

“Abortion is the easy way out. It’s hardly surprising that people should choose the most convenient exit from awkward situations.” March 17th, 2004
“While I think men and women are equal, they are also different and I think it's inevitable and I don't think it's a bad thing at all that we always have, say, more women doing things like physiotherapy and an enormous number of women simply doing housework.” 2010
“The problem with the Australian practice of abortion is that an objectively grave matter has been reduced to a question of the mother’s convenience.” March 17th 2004
“We just can’t stop people from being homeless if that’s their choice.” February 11th, 2010
“Jesus knew that there was a place for everything and it’s not necessarily everyone’s place to come to Australia.” April 5th, 2010
“Why isn’t the fact that 100,000 women choose to end their pregnancies regarded as a national tragedy approaching the scale, say, of Aboriginal life expectancy being 20 years less than that of the general community?” March 17th, 2004
“What the housewives of Australia need to understand as they do the ironing is that if they get it done commercially it’s going to go up in price and their own power bills when they switch the iron on are going to go up.” February 8th, 2010
“The climate change argument is absolute crap, however the politics are tough for us because 80 per cent of people believe climate change is a real and present danger.” February 2nd, 2010
“I won't be rushing out to get my daughters vaccinated [for cervical cancer], maybe that's because I'm a cruel, callow, callous, heartless bastard but, look, I won't be.” November 9th, 2006
“I would say to my daughters if they were to ask me this question... [their virginity] is the greatest gift that you can give someone, the ultimate gift of giving and don't give it to someone lightly, that's what I would say.” January 27th
“The problem with the Australian practice of abortion is that an objectively grave matter has been reduced to a question of the mother’s convenience.” 2010

The idea that this tory scum would make himself minister of women and be controlling indigenous affairs is disgusting. He's government is a joke. The only thing left to do is fight back where and when we can. I know theres going to be a round of protests around education cuts, marriage equality and refugees in lots of citys

If my immigrant Oz cousins voted for this bastard..I wouldn't be surprised actually because they are quite ignorant and 'all aboringinals have a drinking problem' casual racists.

At university he lost an election to a woman and then cornered the woman and punched the wall next to her head twice.

I have seen those quotes before shocking isn't it, here are some more

On Asylum Seekers

‘These people aren’t so much seeking asylum, they’re seeking permanent residency. If they were happy with temporary protection visas, then they might be able to argue better that they were asylum seekers’

On rights at work

‘Bad bosses, like bad fathers and husbands, should be tolerated because they do more good than harm’

On women

‘I think it would be folly to expect that women will ever dominate or even approach equal representation in a large number of areas simply because their aptitudes, abilities and interests are different for physiological reasons’
‘I think there does need to be give and take on both sides, and this idea that sex is kind of a woman’s right to absolutely withhold, just as the idea that sex is a man’s right to demand I think they are both they both need to be moderated, so to speak’

On Julia Fillard

‘Gillard won’t lie down and die’

On climate change

‘If you want to put a price on carbon why not just do it with a simple tax.’

On homosexuality

‘I’d probably … I feel a bit threatened’
‘If you’d asked me for advice I would have said to have – adopt a sort of “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy about all of these things…’

On Indigenous Australians

‘Now, I know that there are some Aboriginal people who aren’t happy with Australia Day. For them it remains Invasion Day. I think a better view is the view of Noel Pearson, who has said that Aboriginal people have much to celebrate in this country’s British Heritage’
‘Western civilisation came to this country in 1788 and I’m proud of that…’

‘There may not be a great job for them but whatever there is, they just have to do it, and if it’s picking up rubbish around the community, it just has to be done’

On Nicola Roxon

‘That’s bullshit. You’re being deliberately unpleasant. I suppose you can’t help yourself, can you?’

Fun fact: the cabinet of the Afghanistan has more women in it than ours (which has only one woman), I think after Abbott's term is up the Liberals (conservatives) will never be voted in again for several decades if Australia's still around after his term finishes.

Abbott's policies and views are very compatible with both classical liberalism and American liberalism. No need to call him a conservative unless you want to avoid speaking down to liberals.

I think Tony Abbott is an evil man who will destroy Australia within a few years, he hates workers rights and almost started a war with Indonesia and now he wants to indefinitely hold Refugees in concentration camps in Papua New Guinea.

I planned on moving to Aus to work at the end of the year (I'm in NZ). I started having second thoughts hearing about his victory in the elections.

Fucking filth goes on about how 'boat people' and 'illegal immigrants' (political propaganda shit - it is not illegal to seek asylum in Australia, unbeknownst to most bogans who vote for the slime ball) are such a growing threat to white Australia, then once he gets in, he censors the god-damned government statistics on undocumented migration to Australia under pretense of it being a 'national security issue!' He's nothing but a dishonest, right-wing fucking bastard.

We've got yet another conservative prick in after over half of Australia's population's been whipped up by what amounts to fucking sloganeering and fear-tripping on the issue of people from other countries coming here. I can't wait until some lib MPs push their private education support program, because you don't deserve an education if you don't have a big wallet!

I mean, even John Howard's shied away from some of the positions he's taken.

I agree with absolutely everything you just said Star Linn, +1, Tony Abbot is censoring the media and just recently said that they have reduced the amount of boats coming to Australia by 90% (liar!) but we can't check to see if that's true because of national security, he is a right wing fascist extremist and want’s a dictatorship.

Just another socially-conservative neoliberal politician that our electoral cycle inevitably produces, albeit one with a more reactionary social views than what we are used to.

The outcome of the election that concerns me the most is that it looks like Clive Palmer is set to have the balance of power in the senate.

This thread has no point? A bunch socialists agree they don't like Tony Abbot. Is there anything specific anyone want to discuss?

That looks like a parody.

I think the fact that people like this get voted into office marks the height of bourgeois democracy.
