figure I'll start this thread, glad they address the issue of unforeseen deaths creating a crisis

It is excellent.
On the unforeseen death things, it had never actually crossed my mind and then when it happened, it was a bit of doh moment.
I love the show, much more than I loved Breaking Bad.

When they brought it up, it seemed like it was something they should have had to deal with a lot sooner, but that's just hindsight.

I'm enjoying it so far. Kind of tired by now of all the people complaining about the lack of action (which is bullshit, have we been watching the same show?).

That's kind of how it hit me, too. It seems like such an obvious thing, but it never even occurred to me until now. Part of me wonders why these unforeseen deaths hadn't happened as far back as season 1, 2, or 3, but whatever - it's a cool development. I'd be interested in seeing where it goes.

you'd think with the threat of human attack/zombie attack/new folks bedding down in the same area (the prison), that everyone would at least have something more than a piece of cloth covering the entrance to their cell
also at least a couple people on watch because interpersonal shit is bound to happen given the stress levels and stuff

I wasn't aware the new season started. I just recently finished up season 3 on netflix. I'm going to have to find a way to watch it online. I really like the show and I've kinda run out of shows to watch after finishing up breaking bad and orange is the new black.

Orphan Black is fucking awesome, in my opinion. I watched it over the last couple days and now I'm recommending it to pretty much everyone I talk to. The actress who plays the protagonist is amazing - you'll have to watch the whole season to see what I mean. Although you're Canadian, so you may have seen this or heard about it already; I only found it on accident looking for Orphan, the movie.
Other underseen shows, at least in the States. I'm the only person I know who likes Person of Interest; it has Michael Emerson (Lost), Jim Caviezel (Passion of the Christ), Taraji Henson and at least a dozen different actors from The Wire in guest roles. It's sort of a police procedural, but not really, there's a lot of AI/Big Brother themes; it was created by J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, Christopher's brother, who wrote Memento.
Hannibal is great; right now it's sort of a prequel to Red Dragon, the movie.
I liked Continuum a lot, even if it's kind of corny.
I'd watch those shows in that order, quality-wise. Maybe watch Hannibal before Person of Interest; it's more intelligent and there's only one season.

That shit is weird, though. Why are the revolutionaries such violent psychopaths?

Yeah, politically it's fucking weird - really just stupid. Like, they openly acknowledge that the government is fascist and "bad" but then the people in it are sympathetic in the show's universe, and it seems to also try to make some half-assed point about revolutionaries being "right" but too harsh in their methods, or something. I tried to phase that shit out so I could watch it without getting frustrated, and apparently succeeded, because honestly I forgot about the extreme inanity of its politics until you brought it up.

Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Deep Space 9 - I can't do it. I've literally never watched more than 30 seconds of any of them. It all comes across as one long show to me. At least Continuum is mostly set in the present, and therefore you can mostly forget about the stupidity of its politics until the guerrillas try to start an Occupy movement or something. (I'm really not spoiling anything here.) I thought about watching Firefly, but I didn't even really like The Avengers. (Cabin in the Woods was good, though.)

I have not seen any of it that I can remember and don't remember hearing much about it. I will check it out and probably suggest a friend get it so I can watch it.

Firefly was an OK show but sometimes they took the expression "space western" way too literally.

It's getting old, first season was fun, but it's the same thing over and over. Post-apocalyptic series Jericho was much much better (yet canceled). Two comments though:
Have you noticed how many property rights are being violated?
And why is there never a 'walker' in a(n electric) wheelchair?

I don't find it samey at all, but I will check out Jericho.

I don't necessarily agree. The first season was about the walkers and how they were the major threat to humanity as an outside context problem. The second series was about humanity and how amongst our own groups there will be conflict. The third series has, so far, been about the idea that, after all the struggle and the final co-operation of humans, you discover that everyone is potentially a threat because everyone can potentially die at any moment from disease, accidents, old age etc. The style of the series have remained consistent (killing a bunch of zombies, some human drama) but the themes have changed, I think.

I've enjoyed this season a lot so far. I've felt it has a lot more of a "horror" feel thrown in there as opposed to last season which became more an inter-character tension kind of story line (which isn't bad, but this is more of a "return to the basics" kind of moment for the show)
