I haven't seen the films yet but they look interesting. The link below grants access to the movies.

I've seen Stalker and Solaris. They're fairly psychological and a bit surreal. They'll really hook you in but you might not know why. Definitely worth watching.

I think he kinda sucks unfortunately. Stalker and Nostalgia are both very good, but I pretty much hated everything else I've seen by him.

And both are disgraces to the original books. Go watch the real Solaris, the 1968 version by Nirenburg.

Tarkovsky is the best director of all time. Andrei Rublev is my favorite movie in the world.
Orthodox peasants run around. Get attacked by mongols. Build a church. Get attacked by mongols again. Run around some more, get attacked by even more mongols. Brilliant filmaking, comrades - true proletarian art.
His films are pretty much unwatchable. Reactionary propaganda for the Orthodox Church, nothing more, nothing less. Solaris and Stalker don't suffer as much from this however, because Soviet censors forced him to fuck off with editorializing and stick with the science fiction, still though, Tarkovsky's Solaris isn't even remotely faithful to the book(watch the 1968 adaptation, it's infinitely more captivating, although it has none of Tarkovsky's fancy special-effects) - in fact Lem hated it. Tarkovsky's bullshit is even more obvious in his last, Swedish-made film, The Sacrifice, which wasn't overseen by Soviet censors. It's just ghastly masturbation. One of the worst films I've ever seen.
