By this I mean what do the current and future rulers read to better understand how to rule us? Recently someone leaked an assignment question that was asking students to justify repression from the point of view of a Prime Minister. I want more of this information. What did the students read in that class? What are the books, essays, etc? I just got Machiavelli's The Prince from the library. I imagine that this is one that is used today, perhaps other things by him. I also am planning on looking at some books from some US propaganda theorists about their work. Any thoughts, suggestions?

They read 1984 and take it as a blueprint not a warning

This Chomsky excerpt (http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Chomsky/ConsentPOP_Chom.html) might help.

edit: Essentially, the PM knows what's best for the people.

I was going to post the grade 7/8 summer reading list from Sidwell Friends School. Apparently I'm not permitted to post links so you'll have to Google it for yourself.

Well, Obama went to a public school, so more or less the same education as all of you up to university level.

What do you mean by "how to rule us"? You get elected and then you pass statute. That's not a secret.
