Is there any organized radical response to the present federal government shutdown and looming default? Preferably not tied to the Democratic machine? I wasn't that concerned when this 'shutstorm' started, seeing it as a elective crisis. However in the second week it is taking on a life of its own, with no clear way forward short of capitulation. Poor people --mothers and infants -- are already being cut off from assistance. As this shutdown heads toward November even more people will be impacted. As I am on Social Security disability and applying for a Section 8 voucher as we speak this is of more than abstract concern.

I haven't heard of anything, at least in my area. Most of the "activity" here has mostly been by Democrats trying to argue that they are important vis-a-vis stopping nutty Republicans. I tried to get some stuff going here but most people apparently won't care until it hits them in the face, as state and city governments are still doing their own thing (even though then it's already reduced!).

First I heard the Social Security Administration claiming nothing will change. Today I saw something on DemocracyNow.org saying it will be affected, but it didn't say how.

The only positive thing to come out of this is it shows the brain-washed proletariat the people they voted for don't give a flying fuck about them.

It's been over a week since WIC has functioned, from what I understand. This means low-income single mothers and their infants do not have access to basic necessities. Somebody needs to get fucking pissed and we all need to do something about it.
