What do you all think a theoretical military of an ideal socialist state would be like?
Granted once communism have overtaken the capatalists in the world a military wouldn't be needed but until then here is what I think a communist military for a ideal socialist state should be like:
I'll proposed that in a true people's state there will be an open military, meaning the military will be a all volunteer force open to everyone above a certain age regardless if they are man or women or cisgendered. No one is forced to join whatsoever. For example a 90 year old transgendered women is allowed to join if she wishes, while a 5-year-old boy is not because he still need to grow (his brain and body is still growing).
I also proposed a radical command structure that has no secrets.
All information will be open to the public as well for everyone in the military itself. Sure everyone will know how many nuclear missiles we have but people everwhere will also know how many rounds are used for target practice evey day and everyday citizens and even low ranking soldiers would be free to criticized, in public, where military officers will hear them and be forced by public opinion to make changes, should changes be necessary.
Another arguement for an open secretless military is that very few countries, save the superpowers actually manufacture all their own weapons, even Russia buy foreign weapons look at the Mistral class amphibious assault ship build in France as an example or look at the equipment of the majority of the armed forces of the world, there will be a significant number of equipments that are made overside the country they are defending. So because of this it may be argued that since any potential enemy may already know about what our equipment are capable of; why not let everyone in the country, which the said weapon system is supposed to be defending in the first place, know as well as help justify the need to buy more (or less) of a given weapon system?
Also this would prevent curruption because a tank commander will know he or she or whatever is supposed to received X amount of shells and spare parts and if the said tank commander didn't receive it the commander is allowed to go public WITH NO conquences, same goes for any potentially unethical acts committed by the military. In other words, there will be no court martial of Manning if she served in THIS military because all information is supposed to be public anyway.
Also having an open military would discouraged others from mounting a military invasion as deterrence should be a military's primary goal. After all who would want to invade a state that has their tanks and missiles well maintained and the crews well trained? And even if they do a open military will encourage its members to actually trained as they are supposed to, unlike in some "Communist states" where curruption is rampant, in an open military the public will know where all the funds are going and a officer who spend all his funds on beer, or doing some other undesirable act, wouldn't be an officer for long.
