Rise Against

I am a HUGE education advocate and I believe Marxism is a great benefit to the world. Part of the reason I stumbled onto Marxism was listening to the lyrics of Rise Against. I wouldn't say they're completely Marxist but they have a strong message against fascists, big business, and overall liberation of people under Imperialistic control.

I would place myself as a Leftist dabbling in Marxist-Leninism and I wanted to know how others on the forum felt about Rise Against. I understand they play in a capitalist market but they're messages are strong and have helped me this far.

What do other RevLeft members think of Rise Against?

I like quite a few of their songs. The message they portray is anarchist though I suppose the rhetoric is similar.

That was Against Me and Rise Against wrote a song in reply called Architects. Pretty much saying that no matter how old you get the fight is never over. The oppressed need to be freed and age is no excuse to give up the fight. Rise Against is one of the few bands that get my adrenaline pumped and my heart beating.

"Architects" was a reply to the Against Me! song "I Was a Teenage Anarchist" not to the song "Baby I'm an Anarchist". Basically Against Me! sold out from the message they had going when they wrote "Baby I'm an Anarchist" and Rise Against called them out on it.

A little bit convential sounding but I like them well enough. I like they are able to bring some radical ideas to a wider audience kind of like RATM did in the 90s.

It's so weird that Against Me! who used to do the calling out is now the one being called out. With reason. It's just odd.
