View Full Version : Left Unitarianism

It has recently come to my attention that a great deal of the left is divided into fractions based on various insubstantial issues. I would like to put forward a simple proposal to address this - Since I am obviously right on all these issues, and all you are wrong, I think the best solution would be for everyone to unite together on the basis of agreeing with me.

To put that in concrete terms, we would all have to swear our allegiance to Marx with one hand on a copy of Das Kapital, which shall be enshrined forever as a sacred text, from which the truth of the world can be derived quite simply from exegesis. Inevitably, there will be various opponents who make snide remarks about our evangelical fervour in disseminating the Word. A principal strategy in our campaign shall be the ironic adoption of user titles based on these snide remarks. Some example possibilities:

Eschatological Marxist
Talmudic Marxist
Dialectical Magician
Dogmatic Marxist
Mechanical Marxist
Marxist Reductionist
Dialectical Obscurantist

And so on. Through the method of cool detachment from criticism and unceasing yet deadly serious self-parody we will overwhelm our opponents and unite the left under the banner of Marxist Unitarianism, which claims the one and indivisible nature of Marxist scripture.

Since this doctrine is the perfect and true doctrine which cannot be denied by anyone using right reason, it will not be necessary to reply to this thread in order to show your approval, since that will be assumed, although you may do so if you feel it brings you in closer relation to Marx through his mediators in the church of Marxist Unitarianism.

All criticism is essentially pointless, since the true is a function of the scripture and it's exegesis, and not any disembodied reason. All objections are thus self-refuting, claiming as they do the grounds of truth whilst failing to grasp the true source of the true (True story).

Finally, a voice of reason. Zanthorus is truly guided by Marx's wisdom.
Victory through snarky user titles.

To a newcomer to left activism the separate "tendencies" may seem pointless. It is very common for new comers to say, "Why can't all you socialists work together?"The important thing is though is that there are very real real theoretical differences which are reflected in activist approaches.

What do we think of Lenin? The Russian Revolution? Did it degenerate and if so when and how? Flowing from this..is vanguardism appropriate in this age? Do we want a united front strategy or a popular front? What lessons can we draw from the Spanish Revolution? The failure of the Chinese Revolution in 1927 and the success of another Chinese Revolution in 1949?

I think its okay to be sectarian, to have different approaches and different organizations. When the shit hits the fan, which will be soon, different organizations will intervene in the struggle. It will be up to the class to decide which approach is most productive.

For a long but interesting discussion on how a seemingly arcane dispute can influence activist strategy...

I find it more than Ironic that Marx, who made claims to be using 'a scientific analysis of the social condition', is now a religion.

Where do you find Marxism used as a religion in today's world? Please be specific.

Can we start calling Trotskyists "sedevacantists"?

Can we start calling Trotskyists "sedevacantists"?

I just googled. Learn something new everyday I guess. So Trots are the sedevacantists and leftcoms are the Old Catholics? High Church Anglicans then are kinda like Hoxhaists?

Anyway I prefer to look at Trotskyism as 12er Shiia. Marx has become "occluded" and we won't recognize the Islamic Republic until the coming of Bob Avakian, er..I mean the Mahdi.

@Lenina Rosenweg: I think he's being sarcastic. And besides...
