View Full Version : Laser pointers in fake guns.

Now first off, I am pro gun.
But what was disturbing was yesterday at the Bloomsburg fair in Pennsylvania there was a kid maybe 6-8 years old with a "toy" gun, ie. shiny plastic and lights that he or his parents won/bought.
But the thing is, this had an actual red laser pointer in it.
Yet it is being treated like a mere toy when he could blind others if not himself.
What's going through the minds of the capitalists that sell these products and the ignorant general public that accepts it?

And here I thought this was going to be about my ray gun proto-types, how droll, anywho, it's probably to make the toy guns more realistic, idk, kind of disturbing, really.

i would worry more about the kid getting shot by someone (like a cop) who would think thats an real gun than about the damage to their eyes.
not all red laser are dangerous, and many "lasers" in toys are actually focused LED's

No, this was an actual laser like you would use for a presentation.

red lasers doesn't do any harm and as far as know, i have never heard anyone get blinded by a red laser, its the green laser you want to watch out for.

So just to clarify... you're "pro-gun" in a place where every reckless weirdo with something to prove has guns out the ass, but laser-pointers really concern you?

Liberal pacifist.
Lasers concern me when they are in the hands of children who do not understand such technology and aren't responsible about it.

You could not stop yourself from having a knee-jerk reaction to a "gun" thread could you ?
Lasers can cause permanent damage to your eyes and kids are prone to shine themselves or others in the eyes for fun.
That is the point of the OP and the only topic for this thread.

Would you want to point one in your eye to find out?
Even if they are less harmful than the green and blue ones, they are still quite dangerous.

This one time a customer shined my eyes with the scan gun. It was unpleasant.

the laser that we use to scan tickets with also comes with all kinds of warning labels, the US made BB gun i used to have had a red laser pointer too though and that didnt come with any warninglabels, so i guess they are in a very different class of strength.
i think more akin to the cat toys

Despite what you may believe, your dick did not actually get any bigger just now.

Well I'm afraid you don't get to decide the scope of discussion for the thread. And my point was quite relevant to the original post and not a knee-jerk reaction at all. In order to be "pro-gun" (to such an extent that you feel you have to affirm it before making a post that isn't even concerned with real guns--insecurity much?) in a place where it is not uncommon for children to have guns, where people who are certainly no more responsible than children are often armed to the hilt, and then to be outraged about the complacency of a society that allows children to possess dangerous weapons like laser-pointers, really requires an impressive level of cognitive dissonance.
