Greetings, people.

I am from the United States, born and raised. I would not really call myself a leftist per se, I am really an anarchist with leftist sympathies. My focus is mainly on exposing and dismantling corrupt institutions. Institutions are meant to oppress. Let me give you an example. In the Syrian conflict, many people were supporting Assad because the rebels were far worse. I agree that the rebels were far worse, especially teaming up with the West, however I rejected that binary viewpoint and also spoke out against Assad. I also despise the government of Iran, BUT I do admire their resistance to Western banking interests. So I may show support for some governments due to their stance against Western imperialism, but I will also go on to condemn their policies.

My main specific points of interest:
-Eliminating any and all types of internet censorship, from government censorship of information, to conservative censorship of "cuss words" and the like, etc; also keeping the internet free
-Eliminating the current prison system mainly in the US which is indistinguishable from slavery
-Crippling criminal religious organizations such as the church of Scientology, the Catholic church, Westboro Baptist, etc
-Envrionmentalism; protesting Monsanto, fracking, whaling, extension of oil pipelines, etc
-Protection of journalists and whistle blowers like Snowden, Manning, etc
-Dismantling the Federal Reserve, European central banks, the IMF, etc; basically I oppose international debt slavery

And of course as an anarchist, I agree with a hardcore socialist approach to the economy. None of that anarcho capitalist bs. Corporations are just as bad, if not worse than governments.

I definitely oppose Stalinism, and I would have been one of those marching against the USSR government in the late 80s (even though it had abandoned Stalinism long before that). Although, Lenin's USSR I would support. When I say I support leftist movements, I mainly mean grass roots rebels, not some kind of dotp.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask. Feel free to debate me on anything you disagree with too. I look forward to posting here!

Thank you, Quail!

I'm impressed with the response time to approve my post, but how many posts before it doesn't have to be approved each time?

For example, would you legalize all types of pornography? That seems problematic. What about threatening hate speech?

I would legalize all pornography, yes (except underaged porn obviously, that falls within violent sex crimes, not necessarily censorship)

Threatening hate speech cannot be censored. As much as I hate neo Nazis and the like, if we start censoring, it becomes a slippery slope. It is easy to become trigger-happy with it and apply it to more than just censoring hate speech. Besides, hate speech can be ignored since it is the internet, simply by not clicking on those links. Now, if hacktivists want to take down a neo Nazi site, then I totally support that.

Hello! I'm also from the eastern coast of the United States. don't know if you're new to leftism or not, but in case you are and you're interested in learning more, have you read Friedrich Engel's Principles of Communism (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/11/prin-com.htm) and/or his Draft of a Communist Confession of Faith (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/06/09.htm)? It's available at marxists.org (Marxists Internet Archive).

I'd recommend checking this out (MIA): Beginners Guide to Marxism (http://marxists.org/subject/students/index.htm) and Lenin's The Three Sources and Three Component Parts of Marxism (http://marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1913/mar/x01.htm).

Also, here are a few books (PDFs) that are a good introduction to Marxism.

Marx: A Beginner's Guide (http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/fss/e8cf47710e69d334b5e9e87b31f39d5c/Collier+-+Marx+A+Beginners+Guide.pdf)

The Revolutionary Ideas of Karl Marx (http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/fss/d82d1569f5dc8ef869a21aba711c0f88/Callinicos+-+Revolutionary+Ideas+of+Marx.pdf)

Are you interested in any particular tendency right now?

If you're not new, welcome! :)
