I don't know how many of you are familiar with the "mini-ice age" of the middle of the last millennium (I am convinced it is why people in the tropics still dress like they should be in London or Amsterdam in the winter) but apparently the industrial revolution is now being blamed for having brought an end to this era.

If this is correct, it would certainly help add to the proof for the role of humans in driving climate change. Heck, we got good evidence in that direction, yet skeptics seem to fall back on some widespread academia conspiracy (ANGLIAGATE!!!1! GLOBAL COOLING etc). They've been having a field day with one of the reports indicating one of the ice caps got some ice coverage back.

^ Right... as if a conspiracy in peer-reviewed academia was *much* more likely than a conspiracy among capitalists to deny global warming. My favorite is when somebody claims that academics are in this conspiracy to keep their jobs or make money. Rampant greed in academia, but not at Exxon Mobil. It would be a huge joke if it wasn't going to destroy the ecosystem.
It's probably calculated to take advantage of anti-academic sentiments among the tea bagger types.

So the same industrial capitalism that Marx wrote about also brought the Little Ice Age to a close. Fascinating.
(Anyone here that has read The Difference Engine?)
