View Full Version : Good punk bands that aren't past their prime?

It seems that most, if not all the punk bands I listen to (e.g. Bad Religion, Minor Threat, NOFX, Pennywise, Lagwagon, Propagandhi) although usually still together are past the prime of their careers. Are there any good punk bands right now that are still up and coming or are in the prime of their careers right now?

Preferably not pop punk, I've never had much an affinity for that subgenre besides some of the more proto-pop punk stuff released by The Descendents.

Thanks

In School (http://inschool.bandcamp.com/) (throwback hardcore)
Peeple Watchin' (http://peeplewatchin.bandcamp.com/) (queer anarchist skatepunk)
Force Quit (http://force-quit.bandcamp.com/) (super tight 90s-sounding fastcore - they took their demo off their bandcamp though! jerks!)
Fail Better (http://failbetter.bandcamp.com/) (pop-punk, but closer to Propagandhi than to Blink-182/MCR shit)

Amebix came back and released a really good album. There's a grind/crust band called Resistant Culture that's very good.

La Plebe, Static Thought, Blackbird Raum, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Dirty Kid Discount are some of the good punk bands i've seen live. They are spreading in popularity, and are always on tour, which I like to see.
Edit: I can't believe I forgot The Star Fucking Hipsters!!

Andrew Jackson Jihad is good. I second that motion. My friend who is a BIG metal head introduced me to them. My experience with punk extends to Rise Against, Minor Threat, Pennywise and such. New punk is hard to find since it's not mainstream. I'm digging Teenage Bottlerocket.

have posted these several times elsewhere but

Urbanoia (http://urbanoia.bandcamp.com/) (demo is good, latest 7" is a killer)
Dark Times (http://darktimes.bandcamp.com/) (noise punk)
Problems (http://ormeyngel.bandcamp.com/album/problems-2011) (hardcore punk, but I actually think they're already dissolved so they are kinda past their prime)
Blood Suckers (http://crushtodust.com/) (w/ people from Problems, Urbanoia ++)

Bands that aren't that much punk but have very much punk roots, and hey, if Iceage and White Lung is allowed, then so is this (not that it is similar in any way):

Haust (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USQ117NZ5_4) (possibly the ugliest voice in the biz)
Okkultokrati (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ12Qy4o6Zk) (latest album more in a heavy direction)
Kollwitz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twOpz_wDNJE) (great album)
Aritillus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SadYu0HsJzY) (screamo (?))

Well, it depends on what you consider "punk". I'm not into the genre that much, but a band that recently stunned me was Tragedy.

More of a crust band, with a really interesting twist on the last record (2012 Darker Days Ahead) including eerie and melancholic moments aplenty. The first two records were straight up crust destruction.

Some good punk bands I saw recently:
La Fraction
Cerebral ballzy
No means no (ancient but wiped the floor with every young band you could throw at them)
Tragedy
Landveraad
The Ex (also old but continuing evolving)
Limp Wrist
Restarts
Good Riddance

In two minds about WOLFXDOWN, saw them a couple months back and thought they were alright, wouldn't say they were amazing though. Renegates 7" is ok though.

Last one... I swear... maybe...

Another Japanese punk band with more of an unrefined, garage sound... But they're full of energy and entertaining.

My favorite current punk band is Alpinist. It's German His Hero is Gone/Skitsystem style anarcho crust with American screamo style guitar playing.
2nd favorite would be Moshka, a really inventive grindcore band signed to Agrophobic Nosebleed's record label.
All Pigs Must Die, The Secret, Nails, Weekend Nachos and Young and in the Way are also really good.
In terms of old bands, Hellnation and Capitalist Casualties are still going strong.

They're very good, although I think they're more noise rock than punk. But the differennce here is rather fluid, I guess. They were really disappointing live, though.

I assume you know this, but Tragedy is His Hero Is Gone, but with a different bass player.
And Alpinist sounds delicious. Will check out.

I did not know that despite liking both bands.

Not strictly speaking punk, but the RX Bandits are pretty damn good. Kinda prog-ska-jazz-punk not that that's a thing, but hey ho.
