I was trawling through the nonsense on a certain message board, which I will not provide the further oxygen of notoriety of naming, to see a wave of insults being levelled at the athlete and runner Mo Farrah. In particular they were criticising him because of his ethnicity and and his alleged 'non-British' status.
Well, I don't want to get into any of that nonsense, rather it got me thinking about what a phenomenal athlete this man is. Having a certain love of running myself, I've competed in a few races personally including a half-marathon (an event Farrah recently won in New Orleans earlier this year, which received some hilarious coverage when a news reporters failed to realise that he is a seasoned world class athlete and Olympian and asked him if he's run before) and always enjoy watching the best in the world display how it should be done, I think that Farrah is among the greatest athletes competing in the world today - proven by his gold medals in the last two World Championships and, of course, at the recent Olympics.
Moreover, I think that he is a brilliant example, bringing the sport to greater public awareness in Britain and encouraging people to take up sport, not just athletics, by his example. Fuck the racists, I'm going running.
