Che's rebel spirit rears its head again
GORDON DEEGAN – 13 SEPTEMBER 2013
THE rebel spirit of Che Guevara lives on in Kilkee – where locals have painted fresh images of the Cuban revolutionary, following a council move to scrub out an existing mural.
The appearance of two murals of the historic figure follows Clare County Council's removal of a large mural ofChe Guevara on the Alley Walls last week. The appearance of the two new murals – one of the side of the Marine Hotel – comes ahead of the third annual Che do Bheatha festival celebrating Che Guevara's visit to Kilkee in 1961.
Local businessman and founding member of the Kilkee Chamber of Commerce, John Williams, described it as "a spontaneous reaction by local people to the high-handed way in which the council removed the mural".
The council removed the mural last week, saying it contravened Local Government legislation and was deemed graffiti.

This is from the Irish independent news paper. It wouldn't let me post the link.

Thanks for this, it's good to see the Irish appreciating Che.

Che is loved by many in Ireland. There is an annual Che festival that has been on for the last 2 or 3 years in the same town as the story above. Che had some ancestors that came from the same town.

Even the most conservative Irish republican admires Che.
