Well, Im kind of going into a guilty confession here, but I do listen to some right-wing bands. I attempt to keep ammount of leftist and non-political bands outnumbering them though.

Can you give some examples of groups that are right wing? Do you mean like mainstream pop or something, because I am trying to think of a right wing band and can't.

Any music with right-wing lyrics, not necessarily mainstream. For instance, there are a lot of right-wing oi!, hardcore and metal bands.

i think he means any of the preachy non-violent conformist types...like most country, gospel, and reggae seem to convey.

Trance tends to be non-political.
Asian Dub Foundation is perhaps the only political group I listen to.

I would not listen to any music if I only listened to artists that conform to my political views (well, I could listen to North Korean music and some other). Anyway, the politics of ICP are interesting, El Brujo, I know you listen to them, somewhat left-wing but also strong Christians.

it doesnt really matter about the artists ideologies, though i am wary about an artists music if i think they might be facsist but i'll still listen to it, it is cool though if they are socialists

A lot of the music I lsten to expresses religious views which I find quite detestable, but I don't mind too much, it only pisses me off when I think about it to much.

I'm happy with most stuff but stuff like Screwdriver or whatever they're called I keep at a long distance, I'm not supporting racists and shit.
I tend to stick to punk and rock, and yeah there are some pretty capitalistic rock bands out there, but i get round the guilty feeling by copying! At least with the rich ones.
I don't think lyrics have to be political, it's all about what moves you, but there's something about a really good lefty song that makes it so much better than anything else  :D

I like Bob Dylan even though he's a zionist, and I like some Dropkick Murphys even though they're nationalists.

It is music after all, if you like the music why, distance yourself because of some dumb right wing lyrics involved. Wagner was anti-semitic, but that never made him a bad composer, just a bad guy (in the non cool sense)

I do consider hippyism counter-revolutionary but that's just my opinion. Im referring to actively right-wing bands, including stuff like NSBM, RAC and Hatecore (I myself tend to draw the line there but some of it sounds good so I listen to it sparingly).
BTW, reggae is NOT "non-violent conformist music."

If your into punk, I can introduce you to some "Red" groups (mostly from Spain) that are pretty good. Some of them may be Trotskyists or anarcho-communists but there are 2 or 3 that I am positive are Marxist/Leninist. As for ICP, most of their stuff is for music or comedy, the whole Dark Carnival stuff is strange but it does have leftist undertones ("Kill the rich" and "fuck money" type of stuff, especially in their first album).

Yeah, Skrewdriver was one of the bands I had in mind when I made this poll. I would never support them by buying any of their shit but I listen to mp3's by them. Other groups that are right-wing but not racist, I wouldn't mind buying their stuff if their pretty good.

If their ideologies are clearly in their lyrics, then definetely not.
Lyrics play a big role in the music, at least for me. But either way, I don't find the right wing to be particularily creative anyways (with some exceptions), so a lot of them suck. Music is a left-wing thing :D

Yes, i know reggae is not a true blue conformitist type of music. Which why i choose not to focus on a song's lyrics; rather thier instruments.

One of my favorite songs off all time is written about a subject which I don't quite agree with.

I don't mind a band's political affiliation as long as their not expressed in the music.
I wouldn't listen to music with reactionary lyrics.

most bands dont offer a political stand. so how can you tell most sing about relationships.

Hmm... my screen name comes from a song by Led Zeppelin, who aren't leftist. However, I was pretty sure they weren't right-wing since a lot of their songs are inspired by the blues and world music.
But they have a song called "All Of My Love", which includes the line "Proud Aryan, my will to sustain." I have no idea what that means, but it doesn't strike me as particularly egalitarian.
Does anyone more versed in Zep musicology want to explain to me what the deal with that line was?
Oh, I also listen to Merle Haggard from time to time. I don't know if Paul McCartney counts; I dig his Beatles stuff, but that "Freedom" song really pissed me off.

I wouldn't take anything right-wing or left that led zeppelin utters, to be serious. Except maybe a little on the politics of sex.

I found this:
I think that maybe Aryan is actually spelled Arien. I have found these lyrics elsewhere and that is how it was spelled. Arien is a character in the Simarillion by Tolkien. She was one of the Maia, chosen by the Valar to guide the vessel of the Sun. That definition came out of the Index of Names in the back of the book. Several Led Zeppelin songs have major references to Tolkien's books, Ramble On, and The Battle of Evermore are two more.
I was told by my father who grew up a Led Zeppelin fan that the word "Aryan" in this song is actually the name of Robert Plant's daughter. As was previously mentioned, this song was done in remembrance of his son that died. I was told that his daughter's name was Arianne or "Aryan", hence the "will to sustain". I assumed he was saying that his daughter gave him the will to go on after his son's death. If I'm wrong please correct me. Thanks.
Aryan refers to a person of Araya. This is a debatable term that can translate to white person or noble person. It also can be an ancient term for a stranger who has entered India. There was a Persian King who referred to himself as being of Aryan descent.

Thanks for the research, Hampton. The one in the middle probably makes the most sense, because he pronounces it "Arry-on" rather than "Arry-an".
Look at me, I'm talking to myself. Anyway, thanks, that solves that.

No problem, it was the first link when I typed in Led Zepplin Proud Aryan into Google taking about 0.18 seconds of my life according to Google. Although I did stumble on a site that said "Led Zepplin was all White and celt/viking sentimentalist." But that's from the Vanguard News Network, which says, "No Jews, Just Right." Go figure.
And all campaign contributions will be received by my campaign manager who I'm confident won't misappropriate the funds into Smokefest 2004.

Somebody brought up Led Zeppelin. Didn't Jimmy Page sometimes wear nazi garb on stage? Specifically an SS officer hat or something similar.
As for me no, I don't listen to right wing crap or even some left or apolitical stuff if I really don't like the lyrics or stance of members on certain issues. That said I do listen to a lot of non-english speaking music from time to time and I am not multi-lingual so who know what's in those words. I listen to a lot of punk, folk rockabilly, world.

I just listen to artists having similar ideas as I have... it's just better and you won't throw away your disc one day because you disagree with something.
