If you think otherwise, you've either never played candlepin, or you're an emotionally stunted manchild.

Curling for those not blessed with so much ice as my beloved quelques arpents de neige?

Very much so, I think except how the wheel & lanes are is unique. Just a unique thing most folks don't know about being at a random (well known) bar in Detroit.

As an emotionally stunted manchild who's never played candlepin, what makes it so much better than regular bowling?

OK, OK - it's pretty bocce-like. That actually looks really fun.
I need more excuses to hang out with people who aren't in their 20s.

Hey, it's not you're fault. I don't think you're emotionally stunted if you've never played - only if you've played and been unable to grasp how much awesomer [sic] it is.

What's best about candlepin is that the pins aren't cleared away between balls (and you get three per frame instead of two), and the pins are tall and narrow. What this means is that downed pins can be used to knock over other pins.
Oh, and the balls are like, real small in bowling terms, so the technique is pretty different (and comes with less risk of finger injury).
