Ok, so here at UCSC the people in charge of the internet set up a new "security" system, basically it slowed down the internet for about 2 days.
So, I thought I could rally the angry students into a protest against this arbitrary new system. I spent two hours running around campus telling people about the protest I was setting up.
I got to the resnet (the people who run the internet) office and three people showed up, total. So, now the internet works again, but not because of me. I still don't get what I did wrong.

So that's my protest story.

Charisma, every revolutionary hero has had charisma, you must convince them thouroughly that this is what fascists oppressors do.
Time, you need time to prepare against them and rally the oppressed to your cause!
thta's what i see...

I agree you need Charisma and a good reason, not just because it slowed the internet for a couple of days, although that is sort of a good point to protest.

it wasn't just slow, it was slower than dial up, and the students pay to have the internet, they shouldn't have it messed up on the whims of the people that run resnet

though hopefully I'll try again with some better arguements and organization and see what happens

u need to give them time to get togather and organize, organization is key to success. tell them in a week advance, hang up fliers reminding them. be sure to get as many people as possible.

Well there are other things to do besides the internet,it's not like it's your life or anything.

true, but it was not the specific thing with the internet, it was the priciple that the people in charge can arbitrarily decide to do something and even if the results are disastrous not care about the effects

here this is from RULES FOR RADICALS
Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have
Never go outside the experience of your people
Wherever possible go outside of the experience of the enemy
Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules
Ridicule is man's most potent weapon
A good tactic is one your people enjoy
A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag
Keep the pressure on
The threat is ussually more terrifying than the threat itself
The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure on the opposition
If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside
The price for asuccesful attack is a constructive alternative
Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
