so the whole thing of syria brought me here.

in the middle east there are tons of groups; a lot i am guessing are more reactionary than revolutionary.

and here in europe and north america we only seem to have the irish which seems to be a mixed bag these days.

here in canada we seem to have a lot of black bloc protests if that is what they are called and it seems the same in britian and us.

Are there any organizations leading these. I kinda self identify as just left. like a little from all things of thought and just consider left better than right without getting to caught up in the distinctive schools of thought.

would love to know if there are any active groups in which to join up/ support :)

There are no organizations leading black bloc tactics. If you know of someone else/some group who shares your vision on how to turn theory into action then network with them.

Heya!
There are lots of groups engaged in a wide variety of work across Canada, and it depends on what you're looking for. For one thing, there's also a distinction to be drawn between groups/parties that are broadly capital-P Political organizations (e.g. Fightback (http://www.revleft.com/vb/www.marxist.ca/‎), Common Cause (http://linchpin.ca/)), national groups and local ones (e.g. Solidarity Halifax (http://www.revleft.com/vb/solidarityhalifax.ca/‎)), and then groups that are explicitly politically radical, but focused on doing particular types of work (Solidarity Across Borders (http://www.solidarityacrossborders.org/en), Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (http://www.revleft.com/vb/www.ocap.ca/‎), Industrial Workers of The World (http://iww.ca/)).

It really depends what you're looking for.

One thing to consider is that you don't need to join a group while your political understandings are still developing. Taking the time to study, to work with rather than within various groups, etc. will save you a world of pain (and probably some dues money).

If you have particular questions, I could answer many of them, as well as directing you to individuals within various groups.

Cheers!

I have a feeling there are some units, contacts that are at minimum somewhat shot callers and getting things happening in black bloc styled protests.

Particularly anarchist showings.

And thanks for the great words TGDU :)

One thing I want to avoid is pointless do nothing talk and or meetings with small groups of somewhat weird people that have no intiative or charisma to do anything, It's blunt but a lot of the time that is what passes for activism and why so many become disillusioned.

Definitely want a rich discussion group as I have a background in philosophy but I want action on the street, and not chanting action. Sophisticated doing stuff type action. Things that make news.

Well, in Detroit we have MICATS & Anti-Eviction events happening (among other city based action) The best way to know of those are through Occupy.

If you're near Detroit, OD isn't a bad resource for events. As a group, they have a lot of faults but good intentions.

I'm sure more Canadians here know about more groups/action that may be near you.

Heya Joe!
Looking for "action" on a public message board is a recipe for a world of trouble - not the good kind. I'm going to level with you: Don't say anything to a stranger, let alone a message board full of strangers, that you don't want read out by a crown prosecutor in court.
As for key contacts - I'm not pulling your leg - there really aren't any. Anarchist organization is diffuse and fluid. If you want to go wild in the streets it means building long term relationships of trust, and common political work. Those are the people you can trust to have your back - not names handed out over the internet (and in fact, especially not names handed out over the internet, because anybody who would do that is either a sucker, or a police agent looking to entrap people with more enthusiasm than experience).

Thanks mate. I remember hearing about a group up in Vancouver while I was there. I think they where called the Anti-Gentrification Front but I could be mistaken. I thought they where pretty militant but their press statements left a lot to be desired hah. Not the most coherent bunch.

And TGDU I completly agree. I am just wondering if there are those groups in Canada. I know my family back in Northern Ireland had contacts with the IRA which at one time was quite an amazing group and then there are the greek anarachists and even the earth liberation groups. All of which are sophisticated, have a coherent ideology/propaganda approach and are do-somethings as far as political groups go. Just wondering if we had the same thing in the left-ist sphere here or even just North America/Europe.
