i'm pretty new to the leftist scene, but i'm definitely serious about my positions and interested in learning more. i'm in a pretty ignorant area, but somehow i managed to get past the reaganomics of the bible belt and started questioning the way things really are. i'm still trying to find out exactly where i stand, which has been hard because i've been taking in so much information from everywhere, but i know i'm a marxist of some kind. i've been trying to look into de leonism and some other variants of marxism so that i can find the closest fit, but no luck so far on finding a proper label for my beliefs.

if you want a little background, i was raised in a pretty liberal household, so i've always been an ally to the lgbt movements and whatnot, but i never really realized that capitalism is the root of all evil, so i pushed for reform within the system. this past year i disappointed my step-dad (a registered republican) when i came out as a democratic socialist, but since then i've realized that reform is useless, and the only way of achieving socialism is through a revolution. just a year ago i was a huge supporter of obama and the democratic party and i even joined my local dems with hopes of running for office, but now i hate the man's guts and the party is just a means of subduing the revolution, so i want no part in it.

i've been debating on whether or not i should join revleft or not, because i rarely do anything like this, but i constantly find myself on here whenever i have a question that needs an answer, so i finally gave in and here i am.

Hello! As you are new to leftism, have you read Friedrich Engel's Principles of Communism (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/11/prin-com.htm) and/or his Draft of a Communist Confession of Faith (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/06/09.htm)? It's available at marxists.org (Marxists Internet Archive).

I'd recommend checking this out (MIA): Beginners Guide to Marxism (http://marxists.org/subject/students/index.htm) and Lenin's The Three Sources and Three Component Parts of Marxism (http://marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1913/mar/x01.htm).

Also, here are a few books (PDFs) that are a good introduction to Marxism.

Marx: A Beginner's Guide (http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/fss/e8cf47710e69d334b5e9e87b31f39d5c/Collier+-+Marx+A+Beginners+Guide.pdf)

The Revolutionary Ideas of Karl Marx (http://o.aolcdn.com/hss/storage/fss/d82d1569f5dc8ef869a21aba711c0f88/Callinicos+-+Revolutionary+Ideas+of+Marx.pdf)

Are you interested in any particular tendency right now?

Hi =) I'm also from Bama. You're not alone.

what area are you in? if you're in any local groups or anything I'd be interested in joining. I've tried looking for some leftist groups in the area but they're so hard to find.

Welcome, what is known as Deleonism seems a good place to start.
