For capitalism, the ABM treaty had to go. The U.S. economy has survived the last 60-70 yrs only because it has been on a war footing, i.e. the cold war. With the lifting of the ABM treaty the U.S. can now continue vast military spending to prop up a dying economy and keep the u.s. population under constant fear of attack, thus making the u.s. population easier to control.

An anti-ballistic missle system is not going to make the u.s. any safer, that's not the point of it.

As to the use of atomic weapons, unfortuantely, its only a matter of time before somebody, somewhere gets her hands on a suitcase atomic bomb. When it is set off, probably on wall street, the u.s. government will cease to exist.

I don't think he needed to back out of the treaty. The US already has Air Borne Lasers mounted of 747's that can shoot down ballistic missles. This new missile shield will take years to get working properly. Currently the only missiles they have shot down was on perfectly clear days with no wind and the mock warhead had a homing beacon for the missile. It seems like a gamble to dump the treaty but I doubt there will be any arms race.

.the really stupid thing is that their technology can't actually distinguish between an incoming civilian aircraft and a missile... so either they shoot everything going in down, or they shoot nothing down. Simple as.
So either George is ignorant, he is using it to make money/political advances or they intend to make the US completely physically isolated from the rest of the world...

Yes, its all about political advances, instead of being so isolationist, the USA should improve the situation and improve its foreign policy.

Sorry CommieB, just wanted to point out how much I hate Bush.

And I think personally the USA has showed us how well it can interact with others and should totally abolish it's foreign policy. I don't think there's a single aspect of USA that I hate more then the foreign policy.
