(I hope that shows up. If not, google the hash tag)
Driving into work, I was listening to my local public radio station. Tell Me More discussed this trending hash tag.
I'm a white woman. I get where I fit in the grand scheme of this culture in the states (& in most cases, other nations). I know I can never really empathize with a person of color. I also know that it irks the crap out of me when my white, feminist friends discuss how oppressed we are but miss out on all of the other struggles those who aren't white have.
I agree with most of the tweets I've been able to read, but for all of you (men & women) what do you think of this?
Not even sure if this the correct topic but it fits so well for the whole thing.

oppression is everywhere and comes from everywhere and thrown in all directions. i don't think you should be excluded or feel guilty for being white, that being said, some people get tunnel vision and can only see one cause. i have seen this alot living in south chicago where i had black coworkers who were very racially aware but failed to recognize lgbt struggles as legitimate, i also experienced pro labor people who were racist. i don't get it but it may be some self serving thing. "i can understand what effects me and i cry out for justice but i cannot feel for others i deem are not like me" i reject that stance. i support feminism, animals rights, lgtb rights, environmental protection, the fight against racism, the fight for unions and ultimately better conditions for all people. some people can't see past themselves though.

Feminism is about the struggle of all women to be brought up to the standard of living and equality of Men, but some Feminists seems to emphasize doing this for white women first, as if they're more important than women of color. As a male, I, of course, have no right to say what Feminism should strive to do, but if I had to give my opinion, I would say they should focus on women of color first.

I'll be honest, I want the white women to shut up. They are fueling the anger more than actually helping. It's a car wreck.

White bourgeois feminism is a horrible ideology that should be struggled against. However, we need to fight against the "bourgeois" part and not just the "white." Some of these tweets under the hashtag #solidarityisforwhitewomen are all about how Rihanna is treated unfairly compared to white celebrities or how Oprah is mistreated when she goes to buy handbags. Multi-racial unity and class struggle is what will truly liberate women AND men among the working classes. I do not care what happens to Rihanna or Miley Cyrus.

I agree on some of the tweets (do we really care about celebs?) There is a lot of hate but how can that not be expected? I DO have it easier being a cis female. I'm glad to see so many pissed off, though, because it means WoC aren't apathetic.

The purpose of those who fight against discrimination should be to remind those who discriminate that we are all human beings, not to allow ourselves to forget that fact. If a womans liberation movement is arguing that men and women should not be treated differently on the basis of their gender, they cannot then turn around and treat men as oppressors simply for being men, and women as allies simply for being women. The same point applies to questions of race, sexuality, religion and all other forms of discrimination. If we want all human beings to be considered on their own merits then we need to consider all human beings on their own merits.

There is quite a bit of western centrism among some feminists. Feminism is a very white, middle class dominated ideology.

As are politics in general in the western world, I would like to add.
It is interesting to see women of color calling out white women, as I have seen so many white feminists call out white men. I'm curious what the reaction will be.

A lot of people don't seem to realise that some people can be both against discrimination and still be utter bigots when it comes down to it. I knew this Romanian guy who always moped about how Hungarian racists would call him a 'bestiality loving peasant' or an 'inbred', and that it really hurt him. A few days later I caught him complaining about how the 'blacks' and 'jews' were invading Europe  .
The same thing happens with all anti-discrimination movements, including feminism. I remember some absolutely repulsive racist fliers by early historical feminist organisations here that portrayed an 'intelligent white woman' as not having a vote but deserving it next to a disgusting racist caricature drawing of an indigenous man, implying that they have a vote but shouldn't be able to. Hell, even Ghandi was a racist shit (all that vomit inducing crap about Hitler and 'standing united with white people over kaffirs').
It doesn't mean feminism itself is bad whatsoever, just that the 'pioneers of rights' can still be bigoted fuckheads.

More like the west is a white supremacist society and so the feminism of non-white people is overlooked or outright suppressed.
