So basically at a certain time of the year in Canadia, everyone goes north to bash infant seal skulls in with clubs? What in the fuck?

What kind of sick bastard does that shit?

I believe it is mostly the fishing community because the seals eat the fish. But I do know others do it for high end designers who use sealskin for their products. That being said, I cannot even wrap my brain around it as anything someone should be willing to do.

I do not agree that Inuits should be attacked for killing seals; they consume the entire body (including eyes) & use the skins for warmth. A native group that rarely kills one, I cannot see in the wrong.

The ones that murder & then leave the bodies or skin them & leave them, I have issue with.

Sarcasm? The site is run by the same group as the Sea Shepards (who I have no issue with or their tactics. I've gotten a lot of flak for it).

I don't think you've really read through the website at all, because it's quite clearly against seal clubbing activities.

Yeah . . . that shit is . . . complicated.
I'm speaking as a vegan and an Atlantic Canadian.
Like, the seal hunt happens in part of the country that is slowly depopulating, and is economically dependent on exports of raw materials. Like, it's not the territories or anytihng, but it is part of why Canada occasionally gets (mistakenly, imho) labeled "semi-periphery" by world systems analysts.
So, is it, like, gruesome? Yeah. Would I love to see it done away with? Yeah.
Do I still sympathize more with the people clubbing seals than with most of the bourgeois moralist asshole who denounce them? Yeah.
